The POD question: Is aiming for a POD over best option pointless?

Yes: Why not get the best player and every week we end up with premium POD anyway

No: I want as many POD every week than my opposition

I really don't see why people bother saying stuff like "think I'll get him as a great POD".
Why?
Because you end up having POD regardless every week.
Seems just logic to go for the best player.
The only reason I may consider is if I can't decide between 2 players and that is all.

Curious as what others think.

POD is all about risk vs reward. Whether you're going for leagues or overall, you cannot beat omeone with exactly the same team as them. There are always going to be must-have players, for instance this year in the top 10 teams overall, 9 of them hav Shaw, Fyfe, Dusty and Gray. the 10th, currently in 5th place, doesn't have Gray (but does have Shaw, Fyfe and Dusty). You want to be looking for PODs who might put you ahead. This is typically down the order eg looking at F5/6, D5/6, M7/8 kinda players. Where you might be tossing up two players who will probably average the same, so you might look at the one less people have - that was if they go bang and get a huge score, less people are getting that score. But yeah t works both ways, when they get crap scores you'll be one of few people biting those too...

In terms of POD vs best option, how we all define "best option" is different anyway, so it's a bit of a moot question. I'd say by now everyone has the "must-have" players, so now it comes down to filling the last few spots, which everyone will think differently about anyway. I doubt anyone is sitting here thinking "should I grab Libba or Fyfe this week? Libba not in many teams at all, get on him!"

It depends on your goals really. I was ranked 500th a few weeks ago and realised the only way I was going to catch up was to jump on a few PODs

So guys like Laird, Picken, Priddis etc quickly found a place in my team

If I was aiming for league, or to maintain my overall position, I probably would have gone for some 'safer' picks

Having Ablett will be a massive POD, some teams won't be able to get him
