Obviously not Adelaide's fault, but Geelong are basically the only team unable to play for the 4 points just on the bad luck of having to play Adelaide this horrible weekend. I'm totally for Adelaide deciding not to play, that's there right and the right decision, but in the end this 2 points could see the Cats miss (could see them get in also I realise).

I think considering they are unmitigated circumstances it is fair that the points are split. It would be the same case if there was flash flooding etc. Points are split if they can't reschedule.

Also while the Cats would have had a chance to play for 4 points had the game gone ahead under normal circumstances, there was no certainty that they would have won. I would say the Crows win the game in that case anyway so the 2 points is a plus in that scenario.

The deal to give 2 points each was agreed upon by ALL clubs before Gillon McLachlan gave the announcement.

I don't think its a huge injustice or anything, not losing sleep over it, and it seems an ok outcome.

Patrick Keane ‏@AFL_PKeane 5m5 minutes ago

The AFL wishes to advise there will be changes to the normal match-day operations of AFL games this weekend, to honour Phil Walsh.

Pre-Game
Players, Officials, Umpires - black armbands.
Min. silence, video tribute atgames.
Club match day activities will not proceed.

Breaks Regular in-match club activities at 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4 time will not proceed. Auskick will proceed as usual.

Post-Match The winning theme song will not be played in venue post game. Scheduled post-match club activities will not proceed.

So basically everything suspended but Auskick.

Round will go ahead. Two premiership points for Crows & Cats, that game will be cancelled. AFL to confirm soon

If that's true, really think it is fairer for the Cats to get 4 points.

I get where you're coming from, but it's not the Crows fault this happened so 2pts each is fairest.  How's it fair that a team loses their coach in an incredibly tragic way AND they lose 4 premiership points?

Obviously not Adelaide's fault, but Geelong are basically the only team unable to play for the 4 points just on the bad luck of having to play Adelaide this horrible weekend. I'm totally for Adelaide deciding not to play, that's there right and the right decision, but in the end this 2 points could see the Cats miss (could see them get in also I realise).
Personally, I think it's one of those times when everyone has to realise that there is more to life than Football

2 pts may not be fair, however it may be considered disrespectful to compel either team to play (Geelong may be perceived negatively for winning, and the Crows may be perceived negatively for losing). It would be even worse to consider it a forfeit for the Crows (as that is not what Walsh would have wanted).

At the end of the day, I'm sure both parties will feel a sense of closure ending the weekend on equal footing

Very happy to see these things implemented. Exactly as i'd hoped for.

Just no idea what to feel or even say right now, had all day but still no idea. Not only have we lost a Premiership Coach but close friends of mine also knew Phil closely, they were on holidays in Queensland.

I thank Phil for what he brought to football and my prayers go out to his family, as for the players? Good luck boys, maybe this can turn them into ruthless beasts. But that's the last thing from their mind

Still can't believe it. RIP Walshy.

Just not a night for celebrating I wouldn't have thought, especially in the footy world.

Think it was to show full respect To Phil Walsh with no activities and club activities at all. Do not know whether Phil would have agreed but AFL made the decision.
