As a Port supporter I don't care too much about Monfries, but I'm pretty aggravated that Ryder will be banned for 12 months - I guess I'm going to be optimistic as this means Lobbes will return to a 100 average for my SC team  :) (maybe Port will win the premiership this year because having Lobbe & Ryder in the same team was a mess from start to finish - and I guess the WADA appeal was probably the reason Port didn't trade Lobbe)

Yeah I think he will return to his 2014 average or rise above it. If you compare his 2013 and 2014 seasons (where he was one of Power fan's most loved players, and considered a 6th mid who could ruck, rather than just a ruck) to his 2015 season, the only difference is that Patrick Ryder was there.

Dixon will also help him as in 2013 & 2014 he was the sole ruck (literally was the last person Power fans wanted to sustain an injury or our ruck man would have been Westhoff hahaha). Now Dixon will pinch hit giving Lobbe a breather so he will always be able to play at full capacity (compared to Ryder who spent more than 50% of his time in the ruck - leaving Lobbe down forward, on the bench, or unfortunately in the SANFL).

I think he needs to be a starter in all teams considering his price tag. Ryder is a great player, but he is shaping up to be Port's worst pick-up at this point (he was good for most of last year but inadvertently destroyed our gameplan - if he played the role Dixon will play this season he would have been perfect - and now he is unavailable for an entire season).

It's a shame for Essendon, they were on their way to an eventuate premiership push, and Hird managed to completely destroy the team. Hardworking players like Heppell, Stanton, Watson, Hibberd, Hurley, Hooker and those who moved club all suffer and spend a year of their career wasted, rather than reaching their potential, purely because they trusted their coaching staff  :-\

I'm going to wait and see how events play out over the next few days/weeks to make a verdict

But I will say that, if players are banned for 2016, some form of compensatory points will be brought in for teams with the 17 banned players - e.g. 2015 average.
