Is Hodge really worth it?

Averaging 109 but taking out his 177 is averaging 97, tonned up 3 out of 7 games and is priced at $544k

Adding to this, he has played 7 bottom eight teams and is yet to play against a top 8 side - I'm very wary also that he's averaging 116.5 DT points with his conversion to SC being poor.. He is nearly 15 points higher than what he's ever averaged before over a season in DT (103.5) and he's not getting any younger (what I'm saying is his scores will drop to 105ish which means I see him only averaging between 90-100sc

Really just wanting to ask because is he worth the extra $60-80k from Birchall/McDonald? If so I miss out on anyone for Tosh next week and will require a downgrade, if not I can get two defensive premiums in..

Opinions please, what do you see him averaging?

MC

No chance for me. I have to decide this week between Houli and TMac (likely going Houli) and will complete my defence with either Smith/Hibberd/Simpson next week or the week after.
Hawks players are high risk of being rested, Hodge himself has proven to be less durable than desired and for the last 3 years his average has been around 90 - buoyed by a few massive games here and there. He's also 31 - same reason why i'm steering clear of Simpson for now!
If I were you i'd save myself 60-70k and roll with Houli/TMac.
I predict he averages 90 from here to finish the year with a 95 average. Same with the others I mentioned.
If you're looking for value/POD perhaps consider Broadbent? He's started slowly but is building nicely and has pretty good history backing him up. Rd 13 bye and 413k could prove to be a bargain in a few weeks time!

In your situation I'd save the trade.

But I do think he's worth it.  When he plays I can see him averaging 105+.  Big games don't phase him either, scored 97, 143, 137 in the finals last year.

Further to the point, that 177 shows his ceiling is well and truly there.  The last time he scored 150+ in a game was 2011 and he averaged 106 that year.

Was all set on bringing him in this week to complete my defence, but have really cooled off him and am going with Houli now instead

Houli plus 60k seems better to me.

Had Hodge from the beginning and am bringing Houli in this week.

Agree that Houli + cash > $500K+ defenders at this point in time.

eaglesman

hodge definitely worth it IMO ...

Nice thread, not sure ?

He did have a spell for 3 weeks which probably offsets the  30+ age factor

Just got a feeling he'll miss a few weeks to an old man's calf injury, or something worse

Slim Don

Yes. Worth it in my opinion. Yes he is not the most durable and age probably an added factor here. Saying that the 3 weeks off will definately help him in the long run as he has pretty much had a mid season break so can imagine Clarke wanting to build up the miles in his legs during the second half of the season, meaning more midfield minutes. Also in regards to his draw feel like playing the better teams will only help his scoring, proven big game player, without any stats to back me up think he is a much greater risk to take a day off against an easy beat opponent than another premiership contender.

I am jumping on this week. Clearly the standout back if he doesn't get rested/injured from here on.

Holden the ball

i'm getting him and houli i cant see any better option

tkringle

i'm still deciding between Hodge, Houli and McDonald..

HotTiges

If you can afford him, get him..defender at a midfield price and scoring well enough

Jimmykidd

Thinking about getting simmo or houli myself. Then tmac after his bye.

Hodge is just too expensive. I think he is a good pick, but not at that price. Paying overs IMO. Can't see him averaging over 100 from here.

If you can afford him, get him..defender at a midfield price and scoring well enough..ill probably use cash elsewhere

Capper

i really dont know what to do with backs this year.

Hodge noramlly plays better against the stronger teams. So with Freo and Swans coming up i would really consider him

RaisyDaisy

Actually you know what?

I'll bring in Houli at 480k this week, and then in a couple of weeks time when I can, I will get rid of the spud LOLmumba and upgrade him to Hodge, who will have fallen a bit in value by then hopefully

Done and Done :)
