Hey coaches.

So, my team still needs a bit of work, I've got 14 trades to use, 300k in the bank, and I need 2 mids, 1 fwd and 2 defenders - that's counting Newnes as a keeper.

Thankfully I have a lot of money still in rooks and failed experiments like Bellcho, so a couple of downgrade's should afford me most of the upgrades I need, I should have my team finished with 6+ trades spare.

I've just noticed that this week NicNat has a BE of 86, and Smartin has a BE of 110. Next week I'll have both Goldy and NicNat out in rucks, but NicNat to Smartin could be as little as 30k... Given that Nat has been a little average this year (2 big scores in the last 3 weeks making him look pretty good, other than that been ordinary) and Martin has been pretty damn good, would that be a really stupid call given that I'll be riding the rest of the season with ~5/6 trades?? I'm leaning towards yes it's stupid, but it could be a good move given that most of my cash league are running with either GoldNat or GoldSauce as rucks, would give me a POD...

thoughts?

NicNat's last 3 weeks might have had 2 big scores making his output look better, but perhaps those 2 big scores are the sign of someone who has finally had enough time to hit his straps and is now up and going?

I have Goldy and NN out next week too, and a month ago I was going to trade NN but now I am keeping for sure

Yeah waste of a trade really.  Best 18 so doesn't matter if both rucks are out. If your short on players then trades in other positions would make more sense.

Nic nat played no ruc last week hence the score. And the 140+ the week before he took mark of the year. He is good for a 70-80 I reckon. Doesn't kick enough goals. Might side him to a Maric next week and jump off whilst he made up some cash.

Never trade a premium out that is in form, especially this late in the season

Thanks for replies all :)

What's "in form" though? I'm thinking exactly as frozensage puts it, last week he had no real ruck opposition, and take a look at his scores vs sides with decent ruckmen:

GWS: 83

Lions: 83

Freo: 77

North: 79

Prior to 150 vs the cats he was averaging 86... Since then he's got the 79 against North and 147 against a ruckless dons. For me that's one good game for the season to date. I'll obviously give him this week, but he's up against Maric and then in 2 games time will face Jacobs. His finals run is Freo, Dogs, Crows, Saints - that's not a nice run for a ruckman. Though Martin faces blues, crows, hawks, dogs so both go against Minson (probably) and Jacobs.

Martin vs Minson and NicNat vs Maric this week could be the decider for me, If NN can put up some good form against a good ruckman, then I'll consider it a form change... But at this stage he's got 4 scores above 95 in 11 games, 2 of those barely scraping a ton. Martin has gone 95+ in 8/10 games, including 5 tons (all 110+)... If we're talking SC scoring form, Martin is clearly out doing NicNat...

Not that silly. The thought had crossed my mind too. He's jumped up a little in price, will be closer to some of the other premium rucks in price who have been better on a weekly basis and will be having a bye when Maric, Martin and Jacobs play.
Only 2k between him and Blicavs atm but same bye.
With trades  becoming thinner I'm not likely to do it but I'm not convinced his 2 good scores in the last 3 weeks mean he's back in form. Essendon had no rucks... I'd like to see a few more 100s against experienced rucks and am hopeful he can do exactly that so it saves me a sideways luxury trade that I probably shouldn't even be thinking about.
