Backs:

B Goddard, C Enright, B Houli, T Kennelly, J Hunt, R Ladson, L Greenwood (M Maguire, A Silvagni)

Mids:

G Ablett, S Pendlebury, J Selwood, R O'Keefe, M Boyd, J Trengrove (M Banner, L Shuey)

Rucks:

M Clark, N Naitanui (R Warnock, W Skipper)

Forwards:

N Riewoldt, D Giansiracusa, C Knights, B Hall, P Dangerfield, J Ziebell, S Gumbleton (L Tapscott, J Podsiadly)

I think this is a fairly strong starting team. My defence is significantly weaker than the other sections of the team. I have built it up with several players in the 200-300k range whom have been seen to have strong potential to grow over the season. Because of this, I have been able to stack the midfield quite substantially. What do you guys think of this? Should I downgrade one midfield and upgrade one defender perhaps?

With the forwards I am unsure of a couple of players. Hall has shown great form in the preseason, and he seems as though he is going to be on the straight and narrow. If this is right then he is dirt cheap @ 366k. My other concern is Ziebell - will he continue to go up in price? He really steadied off at the tail end of last year before his injury. Once again I could downgrade a midfielder and upgrade a forward.

Finally, any advice on rookies would be appreciated. I haven't heard much about Silvagni or Maguire or Tapscott, but they seem to be getting chosen by others. Will Skipper play again this year?

They are my main concerns, but I would appreciate it if people gave advice about the entire team.

If you want to provide a score too that would be nice :).

I'm open to nasty criticism too  :P.

Cheers,
Jason

EDIT: Just saw Greenwood is out for 4 and Skipper is out for another 8...Any suggestions for replacements?

Richooo

A pretty good tream! i would trade skipper for lobbe from port, and maybe clark who i dont think will have as good a year as last year for mcintosh or Jolly. I got rid of greenwood for Shoenmakers as he will play and that freed up a bit that you  might want to spend on your foward line maybe upgrading Knights??

Hydra

Alrighty.

Skipper > Lobbe
Warnock > Prato (Frees up 50k)

Greenwood > Malceski

A lot of people have been using Malceski. This has stumped me, as I haven't seen him being someone with potential. Is this a good move, or should I downgrade to someone like Schoenmakers who has great potential to improve over the year and is only 196k?

Also Gumbleton > Dennis-Lane because of Gumbleton's injury prone back.

I agree with you on Clark. Changed Clark > H Macintosh. Do other people think Clark will have a good year again, is he worth keeping over Macintosh?

33k to spare at the moment :)

Wild Thing

Hydra,
Pretty good team.  A couple of possible holes IMO (remember, these are all personal opinions and in no way are me saying your team is crap, it's just what I think)...

Bachar Houli...Make sure he's playing before committing to him.  With the likes of Dempsey, Hooker, Pears, Fletcher, Lovett-Murray, Atkinson, Myers etc, you'd want to make sure he's in their best side.

Daniel Giansiracusa...I'm a Dogs fan and he frustrates the hell out of many of us.  When he's on, he's brilliant, but when he's not, he might as well not even be out there.  His head drops, he doesn't get to any contests and kicks and hanballs too many clangers.  His average might be 95 for the season, but be prepared for a yoyo scoring trend...130 one week and 55 the next.

Aside from that, standard risks taken in defence with some returning players (Kenelly, Hunt, Ladson etc) but overall a pretty good side.

8.5/10

That's an interesting point you make there about Gia. I had Gia for the second half of last year and he really pulled my team together. I'll think about some replacements for him and Knights and see what I come up with.

As for Houli - you're right. I'll make sure he's a starter.

As a Bombers fan, I think he deserves the shot, but we'll see what actually happens.

Me too, he was a great "fallen premium" at around that point. I wonder if that might happen again?

Hydra

He started a lot of games on the bench last season. He is a needed player in the Dogs' side, I am hoping he will get more consistent game time and continue to play a prominent role in the forward line scoring goals. Even now @ 450k, I think he peaked at around 520k last year.

Made several changes to the lineup:

Houli > Gram
Knights > Waite (That makes 4 returning injury players...bit of a gamble? He's a great player when in form.)
Dangerfield > Reimers (This guy really has some talent for the Bombers, and I've never been a huge fan of Dangerfield.)

This still leaves me with $23,500. I want to spend at least some of this money on upgrading players. I'm thinking of upgrading Malceski in the backline or Ziebell in the forwards.

This is the current team:

Goddard, Enright, Gram, Kennelly, Malceski, Hunt, Ladson (Maguire, Silvagni)

Ablett, Pendlebury, J Selwood, O' Keefe, Boyd, Trengrove (Shuey, Banner)

McIntosh, Naitanui (Lobbe, Prato)

Riewoldt, Giansiracusa, Waite, Hall, Ziebell, Reimers, Dennis-Lane (Tapscott, Podsiadly)

CASH REMAINING: 63,700

Hi all,

Personally I think this is a VERY strong team. With this $63,700 remaining I think I can make an upgrade or two that will be worthwhile. The upgrades I am considering at are:

Tippett > Anyone - Is Tippett not a strong enough first ruck?
Lobbe > Warnock because Warnock will probably continue playing.

If neither of those, I'm looking to make a SEVERE upgrade to one player in the forwrad or back line.

This team is looking great...If you guys could help me make it even better I'd be much obliged :)

Best wishes

overall your team is good, few little things:

DEF: Love the first 3, got them as well. Ladson IMO is injury prone and hasn't had the best preseason, maybe downgrade to Waters who has played every game (if your gonna do this move, check if waters is named at 5pm)

MID: I would downgrade O'Keefe to say Cooney or Ball, frees up some cash (ill explain why in rucks)

RUCK: Tippett is a strong choice, I have him in the FWD line with the option of MMP with lobbe. I reckon go for Sandilands or Clarke, these two will give you great scores.

FWD: Waite wont have a significant impact straight away, its a risk but up to you if you take it.

Overall pretty decent with a few changes 8/10
check my team out, see what you think: http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,11163.0.html

Thanks for your opinions there, Salce.

Ladson is one person I'd be looking at upgrading. It's interesting you suggets downgrading to Waters. This would fair bit of cash, you're right, and would allow for more upgrading. What are the chances that, if Waters plays, he could score more than Ladson and get his price up to the 350-400k range? That's what it comes down to really...

I'm gonna stick with O'Keefe. He is a gun, and after his last season he's worth his weight in gold I think. I'm not a big fan of Cooney or Ball, really, either. If I was going to remove O'Keefe, I might downgrade to Didak but that's not much of a downgrade and I think O'Keefe is better.

It's interesting you note Waite. I know he's just coming back from injury, but he's a top player and VERY important to the Blues so I think his comeback impact might be higher than expected. I could go from Waite > Knights or Lecras.

Any thoughts on the Malceski/Kenelly combination, anyone?

Considering your ruckman proposition. Naitanui could play his heart out and average 85+ all season and with Tippett that means I would have gotten him dirt cheap and will not need to trade him.

Thanks, Salce! I'm looking for other opinions too from any onlookers :)

EDIT: What I COULD do is Waite > Tippett and Tippett > Sandilands, which leaves me with 30k.

This is assuming I do Ladson > Waters (Which I have already done, but will change back if Waters not named)

Depending on who is playing, will probably also trade Banner or Shuey to Bastinac.

ando_10

to be honest i dont like the malceski kenelly combo at all either malceski or kenelly ive taken malceski.
