Defenders seem to be the most unpredictable line this year . I guess we are all getting ready to upgrade down back . . My top 7 are . . Well this week
McDonald , Simpson , shaw , hodge , Yeo , hooker , and maybe b smith when he gets back . .
What are your top 7 ?

kilbluff1985

TMAC, Hodge, Shaw, Hurley, Hooker, Simpson throw a blanket over a handful for 7th

vmac66

I like the Hurley one , hadn't thought about him too much . .

I like how you have Hurley and Hooker as your guarantees for top 6 :P

Tmac, Hodge (will likely miss at least one more game though), Shaw, Simpson would probably be the only guys I'd lock in tbh. Then guys like Birchall, Houli, Rance, Hibberd, Smith, Gibson etc, where there shouldn't be much between them.

Don't overlook C.Pearce and Docherty

Think hibberd this week and smith after the byes

I dunno why people worry about the 'top 6' or the 'top 7' in defence.

It's likely the top 15-20 defenders will all average within 10ppg of each other so it is irrelevant.

Shaw, Hodge, Simpson, TMac, Rance, Hibberd, Smith, Gibson, Houli, Birchall, Bob, Hurley, Johnson, Docherty, Taylor would be a fairly good bet for top 15.

Shaw is really the only must have if you dont have him I think. You can throw a blanket over another 20 guys I think. Tmac probably, but for whatever reason I still dont trust him not to average 80 from here on.

RaisyDaisy

TMac and Shaw are the must haves

As for the remaining 4 spots, there's about 15 guys you can chose from

ronl

I like the look of Hooker this year.  Good value.

jfitty

Houli will be right up there, looks to have the highest ceiling of the defenders this year.

Hodge, McDonald and Shaw next in line, then you can throw a blanket over the next batch as others have said.

Pretty much. That's why it's best to upgrade defence last and just get whoever you can afford at the time. Houli and Rance will drop a bit over the coming weeks, for example.

Agree, i think this actually applies to other lines this year as well aside from Fyfe & Gray whats it matter if your ''top 8 mid'' averages 114 ppg at 600k or you paid 550k for a guy just outside who averages 111-112....if there is 2 or 3 or even 5 points in it take value for money and spend the savings elsewhere...as long as you have those 1 or 2 120+ captain choses not much seperating the rest imo.
