If there was any "Proof" the AFL still thinks they are the VFL ...............

There are some clubs that haven't had a FS pick yet but .............  Collingwood and Essendon have just landed huge Key Forwards recently! ???  the AFL cheating and wishing they were still the VFL or, Tbag off his tree?

After reading the article and how it works,I think it is bullshower.
They should not be messing with the father/son rules at all.

Oh my! I agree this should be used for Academy picks, but not father son... All I can say is the swans have some tough decisions to make this draft. Mills (Who i believe is the best in the draft) is going to be nominated by whoever lands pick 1... And then you have Dunkley who I would see someone asking pick 7-10 for him... I dont think the Swans will even have enough points to try for both players at that rate...

Interesting to see if this becomes a success or not. Cant see this system lasting for too long. Needs a few more tweaks to make it even.

Ringo

It is fair for the academy bidding in my opinion but Father/Son should be exempt. Can see it causing problems down the track when the influential clubs get burned by it. have not done the sums yet but think Pies may have had to give up more than pick 7 for Moore as well if in plav this year  The example is using Heeny to show the full effect but can you imagine if it was Collingwood or Hawthorn that the rule applied to.

So how do you stop the teams that finish bottom 6 picking players from Academies??

Pick 1 picks a GWS academy player, they give up a lot of picks and they pick again.
What stops them picking another GWS academy player?? If they do then GWS will have to wait till everyone has picked until they pick their 3rd player of the draft. Then next year they will have to wait for everyone to pick before picking their first player

GWS could give up 2 years of picks for 2 players that they have put time, money and effort in to.

For this reason and this reason only i want the FS rule to be the same. That way Victorian based clubs will be slugged also

They way to get around this, the AFL pays for the Academy for each each and everyone has the opportunity equally at each player

Ringo

Just remember it is highly unlikely academy players will always be a top 10 draft pick with associated points. that is why I think it fair as most players will be 3rd or 4th round picks normally.

Hmmm I don't see Victorians lining up to post in this thread, maybe they are competent with what the VFL sorry "AFL" Have to say ???

Since when was I a non-Victorian my good friend? Just because I prefer SA's squad over VIC (except this year, GO COUNTRY).

Going to be so good to see how much Sydney offer for Mills!

+ 1 mate - We have been on the receiving end of go home for a while since the Victorian clubs got rid of our retention allowance so let us see what happens when Academy players want to return home. One of these days we will get a truly AFL not a VFL influenced one. I CAN ONLY HOPE.  ;)

Good it should definitely extend to Father/son if they're doing it to the academies.

Equality doesn't work one way and the argument of keeping it as 'tradition' is hypocritical at best

It's not cheating, but you're absolutely right

If they weren't going to extend it to F/S, then they shouldn't have extended it to the GC/ GWS academies since they can't really produce F/S for like another 20 years :P
