i have been wondering if everyone else thinks they do

i think it's pretty obvious they are happy to give free kicks to all the gun players for anything minor they look after them heaps more then a rookie in there first game

i'm not even talking about the obvious players that duck i'm talking about and like top 50 player is more likely to get a free then a 1st year player for the same incident

Mailman the 2nd

I don't think so for the top 50 players, they just get so much of the ball that they get involved in a lot of free kicks. That goes for guys like Brodie Grundy who aren't elite players.

That said I think tall forwards are especially hard done by and defenders get away with too much. Past weekend Daniher, Waite, Cloke and Franklin all got the short end of the stick.

Umpires also get told what to crack down on before the game. During the Sydney/Geelong game they had mics on the umpires talking about 3rd man up in contests before the game even started. Now they'll probably crack down on head high free kicks

Jukes

Yeah definitely agree with ^, us big power forwards are discriminated against and it sucks :'(

I think there is a certian level of favouritism towards the big-name players such as Ablett, Pendles, Fyfe etc, whether it be on purpose or subconsciously. There's a player I umpire at Scotch who's flowering insanely good and I guess I favour him over other players both on purpose and not. But I don't think this favouritism affects the game too much so it's not the end of the world.

Gun players might look like they get the run of the green, but the reason they're gun players are because they get to the ball first, they put there head over it, they have possession more often, they're less clumsy etc etc.
