but Oscar Robertson what in the blue hell have you been smokin? :o

I think he may have been mis-interpreted.

Defence back then was a lot tougher because you could hand-check and body-check players and not be called for a foul.  So defenders could play closer to the man which makes it tougher to get a jump shot off (hence why someone like Larry Bird could take 200 odd 3pt'ers and be considered a lights out shooter).

In current day defence you can't hand-check or body-check a player (unless its in the post :P) so you have to be a step back from your opponent. This gives players space to take more long range jump shots.

That coupled with the quick release of Curry's shot means he can shoot so many more long range shots.

He has a point if curry played in that era then i dont think he would be anywhere as effecient and score as much. Still would just not these levels.

Thats why comparing his PER to jordan is ridicolous as is the statement he is having the best season ever
Lolz Holz, Lolz ::)

Valk he could have worded his assessment a lot better and even still it doesnt have any merit, he is making it sound as though if you push up on Steph he cant blow by you and make plays...

"[Curry] has shot well because of what's going on in basketball today. In basketball today, it's almost like if you can dunk or make a three-point shot, you're the greatest thing since sliced bread...there have been some great shooters in the past...but here again, when I played...if you shot outside and hit it, the next time I'm going to be up on top of you. I'm going to pressure you with three-quarters, half-court defense. But now they don't do that. These coaches do not understand the game of basketball, as far as I'm concerned."

All the while he is ignoring the fact just how far beyond the 3pt line this guy is lights out, the recent buzzer beater VS OKC the defender did push out meters beyond the 3pt line and Curry just pulled up from further out and drained it.
I dont have an issue with him trying to make a case that his era was harder or better or whatever he is aiming at but simply stating that "he shoots well because the defense is trash" is complete and utter horse shower, if this is the case then LeBron cant ever be the greatest, Kobe's numbers are inflated and every single statistic beyond the hand check era is pointless...

he would still score, can you honestly say he would drop 30 a night with a PER above 30, Like Jordan did?

He has been compared to those levels now. Its no surprise the older generation arent happy.
Absolutely, Holz. PER isn't a counting stat, the league average every season is always 15 - which makes it relevant in comparing across era's. I think if he played this way in the MJ era, he'd be even better and so would his teams, simply because he'd be just even more of an outlier. Teams struggle enough defending him in today's 3pt shooting era, imagine trying to stop him when he's shooting just completely different shots to everyone else! If you're saying he wouldn't be as efficient in the Oscar era, then I can agree with that but only because they had no 3pt line - so Steph's 28 foot jumpers are just worth 2, hence much less efficient.

The whole "defenses are crap now" thing is just ridiculous. What a pathetic way to try and rip on Steph. He's not Steve Novak for flowers sake, the dude has incredible quickness and speed, add that to his ball handling skills and you try guarding him for 3/4 up the court, you're just going to get roasted everytime. The brightest minds in basketball work in the NBA and if they can't figure out a way to stop Steph, it must be bloody hard and not just as simple as "Ohhhh back in my day we would have just picked him up full court" blah blah blah.

Yes LeBron, sometimes you do commit fouls..

These refs are terrible and LeBron has them on a string.

No Boston Bias?

Amazingly Lebron just moved to number 14 on the all time greatest list. Fantastic effort for a 31 year old.

Don't mind the Kevin Martin signing at all! Hopefully he'll slot in to be a handy scorer off the bench.

No, he does this against every team. Gets every call and whines about the ones he doesn't get. I know he's still a top 2 player and all-time top 7 but since he's gone back to Cleveland he just hasn't been good to watch at all. Slows the game down, can't shoot, complains constantly - it's just miserable and I hope they get bounced early so we can at least have an entertaining east playoffs before the Spurs or Warriors win.

Saw this. He looks huge, there was a picture of him beside Nerlens and he looked 2 inches bigger and physically more built.

Jumping on the hype train big time!

He grew 2 inches since the draft and is just all muscle.

He posted this earlier in the year with the hashtag Shirley Temple after the media were trying to pile on him again because he apparently drinks a pitcher a day.

Even looking at him next to Jah and knowing the skills he has it's crazy
