I have to say, for someone who only follows the NBA loosely, I enjoy reading the discussions/debates you guys have in this thread.

It's actually quite refreshing in this day and age to read some reasoned and in-control debates online without abuse being hurled at other posters who have different opinions :)

That is absolutely the best thing about this forum, no keyboard warriors here, some of the pages on facebook just make me angry with how dumb and uneducated some people are.

The only thing I will concede is that Green is the better all round player...but Kyrie is a way better offensive player than Green.
exactly, now choose who you want on your team ;)

I'm taking Green all day, durability, creates shots, defends every position...

I would take Uncle Drew over Green and Kyrie any day!  8)

And pick any 5 game stretch, you make arguments either way. It's completely arbitrary

the numbers are valid for the last 2-3 months. and every year except the start of this year when injured (was still better)

Hard to judge Draymond when Mark Jackson had him on the bench watching David Lee post ups. Since the Warriors got Steve Kerr, he's been a lot better than Irving overall. I'm not sure what says otherwise, unless you're just looking at pure scoring and 1v1 ball.

not really since Irving has been fit he has been amazing on offense. Green has been amazing on defense but by no means is he alot better overall.

since the warriors got Kerr means last year.

Irving was better then Green last year.

IF I had to choose between Green and Irving for the Kings (with the current roster), I choose Green.  Put him next to Cousins - wow

Breakdown

Isolation scoring is a dime a dozen

Guys that can literally do everything and defend all positions are rare

That is why id choose Green, he is a more valuable commodity with his rare skill set

Disagree with that. It's by no means perfect, but Real Plus-Minus is usually quite a reliable stat and takes into account both offense and defense. In 2013-14 (before Kerr) Green was 38th, Irving ranked 231. 2014-15 Green 8th, Irving 38th. 2015-16 Draymond 3rd, Irving 172nd.

One thing that has impressed me looking into these two's stats since the start of last season is that Draymond has both a higher 3-point rate and free-throw rate than Irving (percentage of their shots which come from those spots). Obviously threes and free throws are two of the most efficient shots in basketball, so even though Draymond might not have as much raw shot creation talent as Irving, he's certainly taking the right ones. Irving shoots far more long twos (Draymond basically never takes them now) which is okay if you make them, but it's just harder to stay efficient.

Draymond is an excellent rebounder, especially for his size and puts up similar assist numbers despite having the ball in his hands far less. Irving over his career uses 28.2% of his team's plays, compared to Draymond at 16.6%. Granted, Irving turning the ball over less despite this usage is quite impressive. Probably the most convincing statistic though is that since the start of last season, the Cavs are 8.1 points better per 100 possessions when Irving is on the court than when he sits. Pretty good. The Warriors are +20.5 with Draymond.

Valk illustrated my point, saying that he would prefer the Green pairing with Cousins. Same goes for any superstar - Draymond fits perfectly with all of them. The things he does are rare, being able to defend 5 positions, hit threes and be an incredible ball mover on offense. Irving's ball dominant isolation style is just not as impressive. Sure, if you just had league-average players around them, then you might be able to win slightly more games with Irving than Draymond, but I'm not sure that's how we should measure players.

Plus minus is soo flawed. Green is playing with the starters who are killing teams. Plus minus has just as much to do with who you are playing with.

Stick green with a bunch of spuds and irving with spuds and see the plus minus.

Crossing my fingers for healthy cavs in playoffs.

Cookie Monster

My take on plus minus is how valuable YOU are while YOU are on the court?

ok so what if you are a scrub on the court with a bunch of superstars and blow teams off the court. You would have a great plus or minus and you could just sit there doing nothing.

Anthony Davis -1.4
Festus Ezili + 5.2

so Ezili is a far superior player to AD?

Jahil Okafor is -9 and the second worst player in the NBA according to the stat.

Lets Just wait for Playoffs.

Im expecting Warriors to almost sweep every team to take the championship. To be the best team of this era they need to have no series even go to 7 games.
