Would have loved Jetta to play this weekend... he has a few options we could have used him for.

Good or bad for Hogan? Will get more ball kicked at him but Melbourne might become a bit one dimensional allowing Fremantle to really shut him down.

Dawes didn't do shower in rounds 2-3 anyway

Don't think it will have much of an effect on Hogan

Well, Hogan is the one attracting the best defender (Talia and Rance in the last two weeks)

He doesn't need Dawes. Plus, I reckon Pedersen might even give more than Dawes would do this week. Come on big Cam!

Yep - We were never going to beat Sandilands in the ruck but atleast Pedersen should be able to nullify Clarke

Final teams #AFLDeesFreo - No changes. Subs: McKenzie (@melbournefc) and de Boer (@freodockers)

Purple 77

NOW I don't get why Melbourne brought in McKenzie.

Surely, it was because we need a negating player with the absence of Jetta and a couple of others.

But he is named as the sub?

JORDIE MCKENZIE IS NOT AN IMPACT PLAYER!

He is a tagger with (due to the improvement of TMac) the worst disposal on our list!

Why have a tagger be the sub? I don't get it.

roo boys!

Ricochet

Subs are used for more than just impact players purps. Aim might be to give Vince to Fyfe for a half and if that fails then sub someone out for McKenzie, he goes to Fyfe and free Vince up.

However true, but wouldn't it be more appropriate to give the tagger time to adjust to the tempo of the game/opponent, and at the same time hence have a sub with disposal skills, that has the ability to influence the game straight away?

I dunno. It won't change the result... we'll still win  ;)

To us yeh it would seem more appropriate but there's a million different matchups/structures/scenarios to use the sub to a clubs benefit. Like us using de Boer. Sometimes they're also just the next best available player

and i was going to post
"hahahhaha"

but after Bullies/Syd yesterday

McPharlin will be able to tell his grandkids one day, "I tried to bully around the greatest footballer of all time in his 5th game before he kicked 10 on me"

Yeah what a flog, that's the instance I'd love the umpires to pay a free kick.

People really need to snap out of the sub analysis pit. Yeah, maybe there's some thought put in to subs. But usually the strategy involves...

get ready for it...

someone got injured!
