Goldy now or Jacobs later?

So I have a NicNat/Belly combo.

With Bartel injured, I'm not super keen on the Bont and wouldn't mind waiting a week or 2 on Buddy. However, Goldy is quite pricey and Jacobs' price is coming down over the next fortnight, so who do you think would be the best option? Bartel to Goldy now, or grab a forward and jump on Jacobs later when he's cheaper.

Goldy now I think, just because I have more confidence in how high he'll be in the ruck standings by the end of the year. Sauce I'm not so sure... I expect Goldy will easily be a top 5 ruck, and has a pretty good chance of being top 1/2. Sauce could be, but there's also Sandi, Mummy, Martin, Maric, NicNat, even Ryder and Minson if they can rediscover some form. Sauce could just as easily finish beneath those guys as he could beat them, Goldy I think you'd safely hedge a bet that he can beat most/all of them.

Cheers Kiwi. The other option is wait for a super bargain, maybe Mumford or someone else in a month's time. If I can get them for $100k cheaper than Goldy, they wouldn't even have to score as well, I can use the money elsewhere. And if they can get close, like Mummy can, then that's just a super bonus.

Yep true. I've started with Goldy and NicNat, but if I was looking for a ruck I think Mummy would be a pretty good target - also Martin or Maric (all the 'M' boys!) if they can start firing again. I could just be biased against Sauce though, picked him 2 years ago when he stung a lot of people. He's just a bit inconsistent for a prem. He could go 115 again or he could go 90... Safety in Goldy if you're making the trade now. If you can wait a few weeks then see what's happening at the time.

Holz

Jacobs is cheaper because he is not as good. Goldy clearly the best ruck after 3 rounds and I eould bet strongly it wiol be the case after 23

Their scoring histories aren't that dissimilar. They both showed they can still go big in round 2. I'm not one to judge a whole season off 2 games. Whilst I do feel that Goldy should be the number 1 ruck by the year's end, I also think Jacobs only trails him by a couple of ppg, so it's more a matter of value. Going for great value picks vs always forking out top dollar helps you field 22 premiums an awful lot quicker!

113
93 (shared ruck duty)
113
107 (injury)

93
101
85
115

taking out the goldy excuses he has gone 113 twice to Jacobs 115 once. 107 to Jacobs 101 in a good season (which he was injured) and 93 being his worst to Jacobs 85.

So basically if Goldy hasnt been injured or had Hmac in the team in the last 4 years he has averaged around 115. He isnt injured and Hmac is long gone.

I see your point Hib but have to agree with Holz, I reckon there's more than a couple of ppg of daylight between what I'd expect from Goldy and what I'd expect from Sauce... Though as you pointed out earlier you may be able to use the saved cash to make those points up, but I'd say at this early stage of the season the cumulative gap between there scores could be a lot of points to make up, and there prices arent HUGELY different. Maybe if Sauce were ~470-480k...

Cheers for your thoughts fellas. Think Goldy will be the go, and I'll chase value in the forward line later. Just as Mummy/Jacobs will drop, so too will BJ/Buddy/Boomer etc.

I brought in Goldy 2 years ago for a similar early forward injury (via like Cox or someone when we had all those DPPs), and boy did I love having him. Was all for the Goldy/NicNat combo for most of the pre-season, wish I didn't read so much into Bartel's preseason form :(

GCSkiwi

Meh, Bartel wasn't a bad call, can't predict injuries!
