Looks like the draft pretty much went as expected for the most part

Good to see that there is now an Oleg playing AFL too  ;D
Really ??? I thought it had the most surprises of just about any draft in recent times

Was referring to the top end mostly. The Top 15 or so pretty much went as expected

Matho and a couple of others went later than expected, but the Top end was more or less as most predicted

Nige

Yeah, the top 15 or so basically went to script if you consider all the late mail.

The rest was absolutely flowering nuts though.

Well yeh top 10 is always pretty much expected with late mail.
10-30 was very interesting

Josh Dunkley was interesting.

Good pick-up by the Bulldogs. I cannot see the kid being unhappy (it should be perceived as a compliment) but if he had not taken so long he would be a Swan (they needed to know during the trade period to obtain the points).

I suspect Dunkley only nominated the Swans in the last 4 hours for security reasons. Every draftee would have doubts in the lead-up to the draft, esp. those who were not projected to be top 10/first round picks. I honestly suspect he nominated the Swans for security reasons - to guarantee he was drafted.

Congratulations to the kid (and all the 2015 draftees), I see him playing a big part in the Bulldogs future (I would not be surprised to see him captaining the club one day)

My biggest shock however, was Balic at 38 (steal...). I thought he was a certainty either the Suns at pick 8 or the Crows at pick 11 or 17 (even then I thought the Kangas would pounce at #21). The Dockers will certainly be happy with this pick-up (if Port had not selected Bonner, who fits our future needs, and had passed on Balic as well, I would have been furious)

Sure did, couldn't believe Hine selected a guy who has 2 games of TAC to his name, despite having Bonner, Hibberd & Balic available. They ditched Seedsman and Bonner would have been a perfect replacement, just plain weird.

Balic & Hibberd were both steals, hard to call this a shallow draft with those blokes available, not surprised by Mathieson tumbling down the order, the poor combine results were duly punished, particularly given the sub rule is out.

Brisbane have a history with sliding draft picks so not concerned if works out to be as good as Simon Black, Lewis Taylor, Josh Green and Tom Rockliff who all slid in drafts to name a few then a real steal.

Pick 39 is about right for Mathieson, with the sub rule out he'll need a couple of years building up the tank. I'm certainly not writing him off but there's work ahead, once he builds up a strong endurance base he should slot in nicely. Good replacement for Redden. Though Brisbane collected a number of bargains this year.

Is there anyone that's worth a real look or will they are most likely be depth players in your opinion?

Always plenty of gems in the rookie draft!

Nige

Some of the best in the game at the moment were rookie list gems.

Matt Priddis, Tom Rockliff and then some.
