Arguably my favourite player in the draft - Clayton Oliver.

My boy! Been on this guy for a while now :P But you can all go and get flowered, he's going to be a Saint.

I thought the Saints were keen on Rhys Mathieson out of all the midfield crop (I heard that's why they wanted to keep pick 5)

Yeah but Oliver is more likely to last until #14 than Matho... I had been hoping most of the year that our 2nd rounder would do for Oliver.. But he played too damn wall....

My bet would be Carlton with Pick 8

Francis & Curnow will be too good to pass up for the bombers (it would not be a bad idea to get a inside mid - to blend with Laverde, Langford, Francis/Curnow)

I rate Oliver higher than Mathieson. Not to take anything away from Mathieson, I think his association with Parish is making clubs overrate him (still a first round selection though)

I remember there were a few articles saying that Gold Coast were high on one of them and Carlton were expected to take the other guy with the very next pick. This was a couple weeks ago though so who knows

I think the Saints should go Mathieson, Oliver, or Balic

I think Balic could be a gun mid/half-forward and could team up with Billings in that role (one will rest forward while the other plays in the midfield and frequently rotate)

Obviously, the Saints do not have the luxury of focusing on ideals over current needs, so their need for a ready-made contested mid will trump a longer-term prospect.

I think there's a good chance he will last until pick 14, the Saint just need to hope that the Suns don't pick him up at pick 6 and Carlton go with Clayton Oliver at pick 8 or 11 as I see them going for another tall with the pick they don't use on a contested mid (the Crows will be a worry, but I would see them going after Balic over Mathieson if both are available at 13 - who they pick at #9 will be the key issue). The problem is Balic could go anywhere between picks 4-18 so the Saints will need to hope he is selected later because I see a team eyeing a top 4 finish (and a top 8 favourite) going for Balic over Mathieson
