5 years. 5 long years I've been doing this and all I've got out of it is a HoF induction, lots of appreciation, some satisfaction, and a bit of fun. Actually, that's not half bad! Now if only someone would pay me... ;)

I'm back again! For those new to the forums, each week I will tell you some statistics on a player's last 3 games, their last 3 against this week's opponent, and their last 3 at this ground. I will try to give some details of their opponents recent stinginess or generosity (after about Round 3), and I might even look at the weather (if I'm organised). I will also do a quick overview on my thoughts and have a guess at their score for this week. From all this, I'll give you my top 5 captain choices for the week. As per usual, if you have any requests, let me know and I'll see what I can do (no promises).

Premium midfielders are dropping like flies with Rocky, Ablett, Sidebottom all gone, Pendles questionable, and young Libba not even starting the season. Who does that leave to give the big C to?!

The thoughts:

Swan
Good against the Saints and worth a look but you'd be mad to actually pick him. Prediction - 105

Gibbs
Great last week but not consistent enough for my liking. Up and down vs. the Bombers and his team will probably get smashed this weekend, which surely won't help. Prediction - 90

Heppell
What a start to the season! Heppell has surely cemented his spot as an elite midfielder. I would expect him to be pivotal in a big win for the Bombers. Prediction - 120

Sloane
Oddly mediocre against the Dees but the same could have been said for his record against the Pies. I'd say he's a weekly 115+ threat and one to look at for a spot in your mids. Prediction - 115

Franklin
Solid game last week and really good at the SCG late last year. Scored well against the Giants last year and should do well again but way too risky. Prediction - 110

Parker
Whatever the hell happened last week might happen again. Parker has a shoddy record against the Giants so I'd steer clear. Prediction - 85

Treloar
Quite decent against the Swans but not good enough to be worth the risk. In his last two losses against them, both at the SCG, he scored 97. Hat trick? Prediction - 97

Gray
Robbie Gray is a star, there's not doubt about that, but those numbers are just way too ugly to look at. I think he'll beat those averages but not by enough. Prediction - 85

Ebert
Not awful last week but disappointing considering what his numbers projected. Numbers look worse this week so I wouldn't touch him. Prediction - 90

Beams
Tigers don't seem to be tagging this year so that's good for Beams... right? Wrong. He wasn't tagged against the Pies and it was his obsession with handballing that cost him. Until he shows he can mark, kick, and tackle, I'm staying far away. Prediction - 80

Cotchin
Loves the Lions, loves the Gabba. Yes please! That is, of course, if any of you have him... Prediction - 115

Martin
Solid against the Lions but not as good as Cotch. Prediction - 100

Lewis
He scored 51 points in the 4th quarter last week. Even though he started poorly, he pulled through for you. I have all faith in him to do it again, at a super DT friendly ground against competition he likes to beat. Prediction - 125

Hodge
Good smokey but there are definitely better. Prediction - 105

Bontempelli
Question: Why not make Bontempelli your captain? Have you seen his scores? Answer: It's two games into his second season... calm your farm. Still, you could do worse. I'm predicting a solid score but you really never know. Prediction - 110

Selwood
So good at home but so mediocre against the Suns. A tough one to predict this week. I think the Cats going for their first win (and probably getting it) will make Selwood work that little bit harder. Solid but not captain. Prediction - 105

Johnson
Freo have made Stevie J look so bad at the Cattery but that's not actually the case. However, there's not a heap going for him this week. Prediction - 90

Prestia
151, 145, 156. These are the scores Geelong has given up to top mids in the past two games. 136. This is Prestia's score in his last game against the Cats at Kardinia. In the incredibly unlikely case that you have him, give him the C. Just do it. It's going to be magical. Prediction - 130

Barlow
Mr. Reliable is actually pretty mediocre against the Eagles. Not a good matchup for him so I'd stay away. Prediction - 95

Fyfe
This is the Docker that likes to beat up on the Eagles. Fyfe looks unstoppable right now with that 116 coming from a tagged effort. Seriously consider him. Prediction - 120

Mundy
Could be a unique pick that pays off! More likely to just be a solid score, however. Prediction - 100

The verdict:
1.   Prestia (130)
2.   Lewis (125)
3.   Heppell (120)
4.   Fyfe (120)
5.   Sloane (115)

Requests:

Wines - Requested by Nige
Last 2: 106, 131 (119 avg)
Last 3 against North: 115, 72 (94 avg)
Last 3 at Etihad: 91, 115, 136 (114 avg)

Pretty solid at Etihad and a good start to the season. However, I'd be cautious with a young budding that might suddenly get a tag and disappear. Prediction - 110

LaHug

Hopefully the last week I have to say this but please look out for bugs/mistakes. Spreadsheet, although I'm pretty sure is finalised and working well, is still fairly new.

jvalles69

No faith whatsoever in Prestia with Gazz out.

Ricochet

That 80 for Barlow last year against WCE was the first game back after his knee injury.
Excluding that his average against them is 106. Although only one 120+ score

Banking on him having another big one i think

Great work Huggy looks like I may need to steer away from Gray for Euros this week

Heppell to cop Curnow? Only thing stopping me from putting the C on him at the moment!

Round 1: White tagged and smashed Dusty, Carrots tagged and smashed Cotch, Curnow tagged Ellis and was beaten.
Round 2: Only Carrazzo tagged and failed to stop Shuey.

I think Hepp will be fine but he is the most likely to cop a tag. I just don't see Carlton being competitive enough for that to make a big difference.

R.Griffen

I'll try to find it but one of the Carlton assistants mentioned that it wasn't worth tagging the midfielders of West Coast, Priddis is their best midfielder and he isn't very damaging with the ball

Think it maybe have been on 6PR radio prior to the game.

As we all found out the Eagles mids killed them. If they use Curnow and Carrazzo to tag it wouldn't surprise me, but hope not

Ricochet

Carlton are usually stingy as flower in giving up points as a whole. I wouldn't trust any captains against them

HBTD22

Could you look at Watson mate? I'm thinking of bringing him in for Ablett. Cheers.

There's a slim chance I'll get to these requests either tonight but no promises. Only got home half an hour ago and have a lot of stuff to do before I go to bed.

Sorry guys :-\
