Final Run Home

6 rounds to go! A week off for teams next week, before a regular week. The last 5 rounds are against the other teams from your 'form group' last year. So, the ladder can be deceiving.

2014 Top 6

Ordered by current ladder position. The team in brackets is who they play next, but over the last 5 rounds they play everyone in this group once.

1. Dublin (Rio de Janeiro)
2. PNL (Beijing)
4. Moscow (Tokyo)
5. Mexico City (Cairo)
13. Cape Town (New Delhi)
16. Buenos Aires (Berlin)

Moscow and Mexico City have a fight for a spot in the top 4. IMO only room for one and while Moscow is a game ahead, Mexico City have clear percentage advantage. Both could technically miss the finals, but it would take an almighty collapse.

Buenos Aires are out of the running, and don't look likely to win another game. Despite that, they could still avoid the spoon even if they do lose every match.

Cape Town are in serious trouble. Will need to win at least 4 (possibly 5) to make the finals. So basically if they lose to all of Dublin, PNL and Mexico City - they are out. And Moscow ain't no easy beat either. They'll likely get wins over New Delhi and Buenos Aires though.

Dublin and PNL will fight for the top spot most likely. If PNL beat Dublin, they will still (because of percentage) require Dublin to slip another game (Maybe against Mexico City?) and not lose a game themselves. Tough, not impossible, just not likely. Rio is a danger game for Dublin though... can you imagine if Ablett comes in and scores 200?

2014 Middle 4 + 2 Newbies

Ordered by current ladder position. The team in brackets is who they play next, but over the last 5 rounds they play everyone in this group once.

3. Christchurch (New York)
7. Berlin (Buenos Aires)
10. London (Pacific)
11. Toronto (Seoul)
14. Rio de Janeiro (Dublin)
17. Cairo (Mexico City)

Christchurch would need only 2 wins to qualify for the finals... but you know what? None of the 6 teams they play are automatic victories... well, except maybe Cairo. Surprisingly at 8-3, I don't count them as certainties for the top 8. Let alone the top 4... I'd say it is very likely they'll make the finals though.

As mentioned a few posts above, I think Berlin are a great chance of making the finals. A smokey for top 4, but that's very unlikely. They should be aiming for a home final... but disasters can happen.

London will need a lot of things to right to make the clubs first finals appearance. At 5-6 they will need AT LEAST 4 wins, possibly 5. If they make the finals, they'll deserve it.

Toronto's last month has been a disaster, at 5-6, like London, they will need at least 4 wins. Pendles is key!

Are you there Ablett? It's me Rio? Ablett is the only guy that can save Rio at 4-7. Potentially needing to win all 6 matches to match it (maybe with 5). And they have Dublin next.

Cairo's focus will be to avoid the spoon. Without Mumford, they might be relying on New Delhi not winning another match.

2014 Bottom 6

Ordered by current ladder position. The team in brackets is who they play next, but over the last 5 rounds they play everyone in this group once.

6. New York (Christchurch)
8. Tokyo (Moscow)
9. Beijing (PNL)
12. Pacific (London)
15. Seoul (Toronto)
18. New Delhi (Cape Town)

Possibly could see 2 (or 3... or 4!) members from last year's bottom 6 into the top 8. I think that is a great sign! In the box seat is New York, who although they are playing 3rd place Christchurch next week, they have actually scored more than them. Injuries are concern, but New York, in the 8, with only 2 matches against the current top 8 to come, could be inline to make a historic first finals appearance. Hell, they could push for top 4.

Tokyo have been an enigma this year - winning just enough to stay in touch and are a real shot of slipping into the finals. Will need at least 3 wins though....

Even if they don't make the finals, or even win another game, the improvement in Beijing and Pacific has been a real highlight. Beijing are in a better position to make the finals, but they have PNL in its way first. Pacific will need to find 4 or 5 wins also. I don't think the fairytale of a finals appearance will happen for either, but you never know.

Seoul's terrible percentage will mean they need to win all 6 matches IMO, I don't think it will happen, but they can cause havoc for everyone else.

Can New Delhi find that one more win to lift themselves off the bottom? They may need more than that!

Memphistopheles

Some food for thought for us with Buenos Aires the week before the crunch game with Dublin.

Could we see a big name rested from the Cobras line-up...?

kilbluff1985

Seoul expecting David Swallow and McGlynn back in a week or 2 very excited

Fantastic write-up oz!

Gonna be so interesting, this last 6 weeks. Dublin in danger of losing the minor premiership, Cairo in danger of the spoon, and of course the huge race for the final spots in the eight.

You can't count your ego as a game, thus only one game ahead :P.

Lose against PNL and Mexico City, then PNL win the rest... not as unlikely as some other events.

I can count my percentage though.

Nice, Oz!

Tough matchup against PNL but hoping we can snag another few wins in the run home. Think finals are going to probably be just out of reach, but so happy with the huge improvement we've seen so far this year :)

Hellopplz

The upside about playing us, is that we can never get our forward combination right with the resting :(. And surely we're due for a below-par score one of these rounds and coming into the danger zone for games. Especially as we may have to rest a big game for the next match against Dublin Togs!

After Round 12:

PNL jump past me on points scored big time... and Toronto jump back in the 8

Being 9-3 is great :D plus 8-3 in the ressies, 6-0 in EurAsia, and 2-0 in Europe :D too bad we'll lose at least 2 of our remaining games (Dublin and PNL), and possibly 3 (MCS), sorry Cobras and Dillos

12-5 might be good enough for top 4, but 11-6 won't be.

Hopefully can still keep scoring high so we can claim bs luck if we miss the four ;)
