This. Its been a rough 3 years as a Blues supporter. I was quite excited this year with our new list and things looking on the up, but last night it was just the same old carlton. I know its one game, but jeez, we've seen it all before. Mick's gotta go. Carrots, Curnow, Everitt and White all playing defensive roles. Is he for real?

Although i have defended Mick by saying he inherited that shower team i totally agree that teams who focus more on defense than having a nice offensive/defensive balance will never succeed ultimately. having 3 or 4 players in your team concentrating on negating other players is just plain stupid, back your players in, a Crowley type player works well if you can't find a better player so just use a showerter player to cancel out a much better one rofl.

Spot on. Run with 1 on there most damaging... Then Gibbs and murphy need to be attacking out of Middle. Can only hold so many guys down in the opposition the rest will be freed up. You need to attack to make them accountable also. Micks time is up. He's always been towards the negative side but supporters don't wanna see that. They wanna see them have a dip!

The game plan completely changed after quarter time. The first quarter they played free attacking footy and went through the corridor with hands etc taking risks and the game on. When one or two players turned it over and we had some lazy transition play (which continued for the rest of the game) they started playing conservative footy and it cost them big time.

Also the list he inherited wasn't horrible, we have some really talented players but he insisted on round peg, square hole and we have lost three guys that can be 40 goal a year forwards and replaced them with Liam Jones and Dale Thomas. The list has continued to regress under Malthouse, he has maybe had 1 guy significantly improve in his time at Carlton (Rowe) while others have either regressed, gotten to a stage they were at in 2011 or before or have not been given opportunities.

I know someone is going to throw Levi's name into this as one that Mick has turned into a good footballer, but here are the facts considering he didn't even name him on Thursday (although he should have).


Levi showed a lot in his first 6 games of footy at the back end of 2012. He came in to be the number 1 against the Dogs after having barely any VFL time due to a long injury lay off with his knee. He averaged 9 disposals a game (10 last year), 5.2 marks (5.7 last year), 1.2 goals per game (0.8 last year), 2 behinds (0.6 last year), 2 tackles (2.3) and 7.2 hit outs (6.9). He also ranked 4th in contested marks per game in terms of average in 2012.

As you can see some of those numbers are still very similar or have actually dropped. The hit out stat is probably skewed because he rucked a full game in the ruck his first season, but the fact is Levi hasn't really improved under Malthouse considering what he showed in his first season.
