1) they were tested 3 days after they had returned from NZ
2) they were room mates in NZ
3) they wern't aware that they had taken the drug (according to neil balme)

so in my opinion theres a high chance that it was in a meal they had when they were at NZ

The NZ Beef industry has squashed that theory already.

Can you imagine them ever admitting that there could be steroids in their meat?

Can you imagine the players ever admitting that they took steroids?

2 players is not the same as a national meat industry that feeds 4.471 million people. Which one do you think will get more negative press?

Considering all the professional sports people from New Zealand have never had a problem, I think it's safe to safe that theory is bullshower

unless they ate somewhere which got it's meat on the sly from some small farmer who was roiding up their beef, it's pretty unlikely.

I was having a think about something relating to this. If they did happen to snort something laced with clenbuterol I think I know a way they could potentially get off. Wes Welker was busted in the NFL for taking an amphetamine which fell under the PED instead of substance abuse code. He claimed someone spiked his drink resulting in him testing positive to what he thought was Molly (ended up being Adderall which is also a banned substance). Eventually the NFL was in the middle of reviewing their drug code and his suspension was lifted from performance enhancing to substance abuse which saw the suspension decreased.

So this brings me to my point, if Thomas and Keefe did take a bad batch of coke, they can claim someone spiked their drinks and then prove that is what caused the positive test though a hair sample. Hair testing can show what was in their system for months and if cocaine or whatever it was they took shows up it will help corroborate the story. I doubt anyone will fall for it, but it might be the only thing that saves them.

COLLINGWOOD pair Lachie Keeffe and Josh Thomas will avoid four-year bans and will be able to select the most beneficial clauses from two versions of the AFL Anti-Doping Code.

The pair, who tested positive to the banned drug Clenbuterol, could know the results of “B” samples as soon as Friday.

Should those samples also come back positive, the players are certain to be charged by the AFL and will face a tribunal hearing.

But the Herald Sun understands they will be spared a maximum four-year suspension prescribed in the 2015 AFL Anti-Doping Code.

That document â€" although dated January 1 â€" was not published until after their positive samples were taken in February.

It is now in force, however, and the principle of Lex Mitior will apply to any prosecution.

It means, effectively, that any negative effect of the 2015 code is ruled out but any beneficial application of new clauses or wording can be used to help them.

The AFL had earlier indicated four-year bans were on the table, but it is now accepted the maximum applicable ban is two years.

Pie's really sending a message to their list with 50k fines for the two young blokes charged, good on them. Will help other clubs with young blokes seeing that, they may start to think twice about risking it.
Hope the two Pie's can sort themselves over the ban and gain a second chance and still have an AFL career to be proud of.
