Pat McGinnity

“Patty had a crack, as we know that’s what he brings. That’s definitely his strength, his physical pressure and competitive instinct. So ‘Ginna’ came back, he had a role to play, and he did that for four quarters.”

So he was crap

I love how coaches have to dance around certain aspects of a performance and try to find anything that could be spun as a positive, even though we all know what their really saying  ;D

LF

Haha yep
Waterman has been going well, reckon we could see him get a couple of games before too long

elephants

Haha pretty sure he picked up 24 possies so he found a bit of the pill too

Newman isn't listed on the injury list, how has he been tracking lately?

The impact that experienced players have in matches can extend beyond pure statistics. And that could not have been more evident than the influence of Xavier Ellis playing for East Perth in Monday’s WA Day clash with arch rival West Perth.

Ellis had a managed 80 minutes of game time and while 17 possessions and six marks was a good result, his possession count was not the major factor.

Playing at half-back, Ellis helped organise the back six and was able to instruct younger players â€" including emerging Eagles Paddy Brophy and Tom Barrass â€" as the Royals scored an emphatic 48-point victory.

Brophy, the club’s first Irish import, had 15 possessions and three marks and relished the opportunity to play alongside Ellis, while Barrass, who continues to learn with every outing, had 12 possessions and took six marks deeper in defence.

Barrass, who has been named in the senior squad a few times in recent weeks without making the final cut, copped a heavy knock early, but fought on gamely to be an important player.

Another early casualty, ruckman-forward Scott Lycett, fought through great discomfort after receiving a corked buttock, which limited his output. He could not ruck, but played deep in the forward half and his four goals were a key factor.

Midfielders Kane  Lucas, Alec Waterman and Pat McGinnity were also major influences on the East Perth performance, with McGinnity laying claim for best-on-ground honours for his committed, hard-nosed attack on the ball.

He was involved in a couple of bone-jarring collisions, but still had 26 possessions and laid six strong tackles, while Lucas had 21 touches on a wing, used the ball well and sent the Royals inside attacking 50 six times.

Waterman, who had been ill in the days leading into the game, improved as it wore on and had 19 touches and four tackles.

Forwards Rowen Powell and Malcolm Karpany enjoyed solid performances, with Powell using his athleticism to find space, take eight marks and gather 16 possessions. Karpany had 11 disposals, but more importantly applied strong pressure around the contest, laid four tackles and finished off his work with two goals.

In the reserves, Corey Adamson enjoyed an outstanding game, with 26 possessions and five marks despite being tagged through the midfield. He also sent the ball inside the attacking 50-metre arc four times and continues to improve with every game.

"Forward Jack Darling staked his claim for an AFL return with five goals, 10 possessions (eight kicks, two handballs) and seven marks in his comeback from a right foot stress fracture.

Rookie-listed midfielder Murray Newman made an encouraging comeback from a broken thumb, finishing with 15 touches (11 kicks, four handballs) and a goal in East Perth's 17-point victory.

Backman Xavier Ellis impressed across half-back with 27 disposals (21 kicks, six handballs) as he builds match fitness from a hamstring injury he sustained in the NAB Challenge.

Rookie Kane Lucas (24 touches) was also named among the Royals' best, while omitted Eagle Brant Colledge finished with 23 touches."

We have almost got to that point of having a good problem, we have too many good players to pick from :)

McGuiness has done a job but will most likely go for Darling

Not sure about Ellis, he is fighting with Nelson and Bennell for that final back spot as I reckon Butler and Sheppard have done enough to hold their spots for now

And Rosa, flower knows who has to go for him! Every time I think of a player I'm like "Nah he is playing to well to drop" Sheed and Duggan maybe but they are the future so I think they need to stay!

One of Hill or Cripps?

Cripps is a tackling machine this year, 6th in the league!
Hill has come out firing since he got into the side , 5th in the league for goals per game!

As I said its a good problem :)

Whats everyone else think?

Bit of talk about it in the other thread

McInness out for Darling
Ellis is fighting Bennell/Nelson and Rosa would come in for Duggan

East Perth suffered a 23-poiunt defeat at the hands of reigning premiers â€" and current ladder leaders â€" Subiaco on Saturday, but some of the club’s young players continue to evolve.

Key defender Tom Barrass, strong-bodied midfielder Brant Colledge and rebounding defenders Paddy Brophy and Jackson Nelson continue to fine-tune their skills and build their bank of experience.

Barrass was again solid in the last line of defence, has the capacity to take some strong contested marks, but also understands when he should spoil and does that effectively.

Brophy, the club’s first Irish recruit, is in his first season of football but continues to display a thirst for the game and had 20 possessions off half-back, often creating strong offensive rebound which leads to scoring opportunities.

Nelson, in his first season at the club, has already played nine senior games and looks to be a player who will impact senior football for many years. His ball use and decision making were strong attributes in the game.

Colledge, who has been a consistent contributor for the Royals, again pushed towards 30 possessions and was important for the Royals throughout. Early in the year, when he forced an opportunity at AFL level, he was also hitting the scoreboard and will be looking to do so in coming weeks with a view to again forcing his way into the seniors.

Corey Adamson, who has returned to football this year after five years playing baseball in the US, was solid through half-forward and the midfield and is growing with confidence with greater exposure to the game.

Fraser McInnes, who played senior football this year, was used as a ruckman-forward in the absence of Scott Lycett and aside from 20 possessions and impacting in the ruck, he also laid 10 tackles. Lycett did not play because of a quad strain.

Young forward Malcolm Karpany had 12 touches and kicked a goal, but would like to increase his possession count, while Dylan Main was solid on a wing, Jamie Bennell did a good defensive job on Shane Yarran and Murray Newman worked hard without reward.

Forward Tom Lamb played another game in the reserves, building his match fitness after missing 11 weeks with a knee injury, while Rowen Powell also played in the early game and had 16 possessions and a goal.

Development coach Jaymie Graham discusses the Eagles' best performers for East Perth at the weekend

"It was a tough day, we know that Subi were going to be a challenge being on top of the ladder. Our boys were in it at three-quarter time, unfortunately Subi ran over the top of us. There were a few areas we were reasonably happy with the way we competed inside and matched Subiaco with their contested ball, but unfortunately we didn't finish off our work with our inside 50s."

Tom Barrass

"He's getting big challenges every week, Tommy. Where we are at the West Coast Eagles we're happy with the way he's developing and his one-on-one contested stuff has got a lot better as the year's gone on. He had another solid game."

Fraser McInnes

"Frase has developed his game this year and he's getting stints in the ruck which is really good for his game. He competed in the air and then what was impressive was his ground level work. Having 10 tackles for the day was a big effort for big Frase."

Brant Colledge

"It was a good game. I think he ended up with 29 disposals and Subi have a have got a really good midfield so for Brant to have that type of game inside and also do some work forward, it was a good return to some form for Brant."

Jackson Nelson

"Jacko looked better again for another full game down at East Perth. His composure with the ball was a real highlight for Jacko and he helped us generate some good ball movement from the backline."

Hard-working midfielder Kane Lucas continues to set a high watermark for East Perth in the WAFL and his level of consistency ensures the much-improved West Coast midfield remains under pressure for positions.

Lucas, who played 42 games for Carlton before being secured by West Coast in the rookie draft last year, has spent time adjusting to the Eagles’ game plan, but has been rock solid at the second tier.

He again had 30 possessions and six marks in the Royals’ victory against Perth at the weekend and was among the most influential players on the ground. He is getting high efficiency levels and his split between kicks and handballs (15 each) indicate he is also running hard to receive.

While most of the external focus has understandably fallen on young defender Tom Barrass, Lucas has done his claims no harm with consistently high numbers, particularly in the last five or six weeks.

Barrass also continued his good form deep in defence, with 13 possessions and nine marks to consistently repel Demons’ forward thrusts, while Irish recruit Paddy Brophy capped a memorable day with his first goal in Australian football.

He had 20 possession and eight marks in one of his best performances since jumping codes. Jamie Bennell and Jackson Nelson had around 20 touches each and also performed well in defence.

There were encouraging signs all over the ground, with Murray Newman (19 possessions, eight marks) impacting up forward, Dylan Main (15 disposals, nine marks) kicking a clutch goal in a tight contest and Corey Adamson also getting his hands on the ball 16 times.

Forward Tom Lamb, who made his AFL debut in round one, is slowly re-discovering his confidence and form, while Fraser McInnes played forward and in the ruck, had 18 possessions, eight marks and 19 hit outs â€" capping off his day with two goals.

Ruckman Scott Lycett, who has had a few injury interruptions this year, resumed from a quad strain in the reserves and had 12 possessions and 30 hit outs. Rowen Powell also played in the early game and collected 21 disposals and five marks.

Unfortunately, the dampener on the day was a knee injury for young midfielder Liam Duggan. Details of the period of time he is expected to be sidelined will be known tomorrow, but he was on crutches at the club on Monday.

A solid performance across the board was the key to a 106-point win for East Perth over South Fremantle in the WAFL on Saturday.

Leading the charge before straining a hamstring was key forward Fraser McInnes, who kicked four goals, and he will be assessed in the next 24 hours before an update is expected on Tuesday.

Rookie Tom Lamb also kicked four goals, while hard nut Pat McGinnity celebrated his return to football after a six-week absence by kicking three goals.

Through the midfield, Brant Colledge was outstanding, while Dylan Main produced possibly his best performance in league ranks with 25 possessions and five marks.

Corey Adamson, too, was a key factor with 18 touches, six tackles and two goals.

Kane Lucas, who has been in a rich vein of form, continued in that fashion with 23 possessions and eight tackles, with the Royals dominating in virtually every position.

Ruckman Scott Lycett, returning to senior action, had 13 touches, took 5 marks and had 19 hit-outs from restricted game time.

Down back, Sam Butler resumed from a hip injury and had 19 possessions, while also offering direction to youngsters Paddy Brophy and Jackson Nelson who were solid.

Jamie Bennell was also efficient when called upon in the defensive half, was clean with his skills and cool under pressure.

The win elevated the Royals to fifth position on the ladder and has set up an intriguing confrontation with arch rival West Perth at Medibank Stadium on Saturday.

Rebounding defender Jamie Bennell, experienced midfielder Kane Lucas and youngster Jackson Nelson continue to press their selection claims with solid performances in the WAFL.

That trio was at the forefront of a solid and important 10-point victory for East Perth against Claremont at Medibank Stadium on Saturday and with one or two likely derby vacancies will be on the selectors’ collective minds.

Bennell was outstanding with 29 touches in defence, offering strong rebound as well as good defensive presence, while Nelson enjoyed a run through the midfield and had 24 possessions and eight marks.

Lucas, the most consistent of the West Coast players in the WAFL over the last six or seven weeks, again accumulated over 30 touches and six marks to sustain a rich vein of form.

Young defender Tom Barrass, who could be on red alert if Jeremy McGovern fails to recover from a hamstring injury, was solid deep in the defensive half along with Paddy Brophy, who has made an impressive start to his career in the game.

Through the midfield, Brant Colledge linked up well between the back half and the forward 50, with Dylan Main, who kicked a crucial goal, and Corey Adamson also under notice.

Murray Newman and Malcolm Karpany looked dangerous with the ball in hand, as did Tom Lamb who kicked two goals from 14 possessions â€" giving him 10 in the last three games for the Royals.

Rowen Powell again played in the reserves and continued his push for a return to senior action with 25 possessions and eight marks.

The pattern for a wonderful day of football was established at Rushton Park when East Perth produced a sublime team performance against Fremantle’s aligned WAFL club Peel Thunder on Sunday.

The Royals were ferocious early, particularly with their forward pressure and that set up an important 32-point victory â€" 13.16 (94) to 8.14 (62) and in doing so locked in a finals appearance.

It was a consummate ream effort, but again Kane Lucas was the highest possession-winner among the West Coast-listed players.

More than that though, he also laid 10 tackles and took nine marks.

Corey Adamson (18 possessions and five tackles) was also good inside the contest while Rowen Powell, who returned to senior football, had 19 possessions and kicked a quality goal after a good second effort.

Jackson Nelson again ran through the midfield and had 16 possessions, backing that up with seven marks and seven tackles while also posting an important goal.

Up forward Malcolm Karpany and Murray Newman were dangerous and worked hard at ground level, with Dylan Main also having 16 touches and five marks.

Tom Lamb played deep forward and from nine possessions he kicked two goals to be a handy contributor.

Down back Tom Barrass was resolute and took nine trademark marks while Paddy Brophy provided some strong rebound run.
