Not like we've got any other options :-X
I still would have been okay with Vickery rucking the whole game tbh.

I guess Hammer's been in form, hopefully his first and last game for the season.  :P

Kellogscrunchynut

Put Vickery in the Ruck and Reece McKenzie in the forward line simple stuff.

Jroo

So Hammer in for Maric and McBean for Griff. Don't think we'll make any other changes, although I think McDonough should get another chance.

Kellogscrunchynut

McBean is the poor mans McKenzie

Can we pls play McDonough. One day. Please!

Hammer will go alright. He's a great tap ruckman and has a good pair of hands, just hope he doesn't have to kick the ball too often :P

I would actually look at bringing in a small for Griffen. When we've played against smaller defences in recent times (West Coast and GWS) we've been hurt by the loose and rebound out of our defence.
I wouldn't mind having a set up of something like

HF: Deledio, Riewoldt, Edwards
FF: Gordon, Vickery, Lloyd/Lennon

P.s it's amazing to think that this time last year we were in the exact same position as Carlton (3-10) and made the finals  :o

Matt Thomas upgraded to the senior list, been pretty good in the VFL.

I'd imagine there would be a be a few supporters losing their shower if he's picked though

QuoteIt surely can't be long until Matt McDonough gets a senior call-up. Here are his last 7 VFL reports:

Round 12
18 disposals, 10 contested possessions, 7 tackles

Only played a half of footy and still had 18 touches. Impacted the game in crucial stoppages and played a high level of AFL footy. Another player pushing for senior selection.

Round 11
24 disposals, seven clearances

Played a good game for us offensively. Defensively, he let us down a little bit at times. But he continues to find the ball around stoppages, and some of the work he’s doing in close is AFL standard, we just need to keep his game on the outside coming along.

Round 10
28 disposals, five clearances, three goals

Had his best game for several weeks. Won a lot of ball and also impacted the scoreboard. If he can play like this on a consistent basis, he’s going to be pushing hard for senior selection. It’s the standard that he needs to be at.

Round 8
21 disposals, 12 contested possessions, six clearances

Had a good return for an inside midfielder, as his statistics show â€" six clearances, five tackles and 12 contested possessions. Our midfield, however, was well beaten by their Werribee counterparts and, unfortunately, we never got going inside. He needs to play better in order to strengthen his claims for a return to the senior side.

Round 7
16 disposals, three clearances, one goal

Played midfield in the first half, and then a little bit down back, before being ‘subbed’ at three-quarter time to be prepared for the AFL as a carry-over player. Was probably a little down on his customary high standard clearance work and competitive work inside. But we expect his form to pick up this week.

Round 6
18 disposals, five tackles

Couldn’t back up his stellar performance from the previous round. Was okay on the night, with a lot of work inside, including three or four clearances and five tackles. Overall, however, we expect more from him.

Round 5
30 disposals, seven clearances, three goals

Played his best game for the year, picking up 30 disposals and kicking three goals. Was very competitive inside the contest, but got plenty of ball outside as well, which is something we have been focusing on with him. Is pushing hard for another opportunity at senior level.

That's actually ridiculous. I don't understand how the bloke still hasn't gotten a call up yet.  ???

Nige

Reading it again, it's kinda clear to see they want him to be gathering a high number of possessions given the Round 8 write up saw him do pretty well and yet they say he needs to do more.

It's a lot more consistent than some other blokes at the moment. Morris didn't have a great game last week on the back of his return to the side. One can only assume he's in for a role on somebody, maybe Yarran?

Big Mac

Doesn't seem like he can string anything together reading those reports

I'd want to see him have 3 or 4 games in a row where he has it ~25 times and works well defensively before considering him

elephants

Brandt Colledge's stats shower on those AND he cops a heavy tag week in week out.

Those are decent, but nothing super special haha

Well they're better than Stevie Morris  :P who gets in ahead of him

Toga

The problem i have with it is that we're still desperately needing a really speedy small forward who's dangerous around the goals - which is what McDonough was drafted as. Even though he is playing predominantly midfield he can still impact the scoreboard (3 goals last week) which I would like to see him get an opportunity to do at AFL level. Steve's defensive work is good sometimes but how much more does McDonough need to do!!
