Is anyone at all considering Will Minson? Went wild on the weekend although it wasn't against much of an opposing ruckman, I can't see him dropping off massively, and I also can't see the gap between ruckmen being all that great this year either, I'm almost willing to jump on and take the risk with him being a POD, or is there something I don't know that you's all do? Haha

His form on the back end of last year was absolutely atrocious.

QuoteThe pain and restriction which flared in his lower back left the big man unable to train before Christmas and severely hampered his preparations for the 2014 season.

While Minson has kept the details of his back battle quiet, the injury was a key reason behind his form slump that saw the star big man drop from All-Australian last year to 17th in the club’s best and fairest.

It is understood Minson was hindered, in particular, in his ability to run and spread from the contest and then suffered a drop in confidence after his average start to the season.

No idea if the back is still problematic.

Wilbur is the only ruck that you need.

I thought he looked terrible in the early matches and the intraclub but he just wasn't trying. Pulled his finger out against Collingwood (admittedly it was only Grundy) and looks like he'll be right in the mix for being a top 5 ruck.

I've had him in my side a couple of times already. At his best, he should be right up there with Jacobs, Sandi, Goldy etc, and is a lot cheaper. Going Mummy-->Minson gives me some more cash to work with, which would be lovely if he scores as well as 2013

good calls gary's, heres hoping he hits some of that 2013 form!

He is my plan B or C. I have Nic Nat and Bellchambers at the moment. If Bellchambers gets suspended in comes Minno. If Nic Nat doesn't get up for round 1, in comes Minno. Most top rucks drop off the year after they have a really big season. It was expected last season and he is a good chance to bounce back. In the year he was AA he lead the league in hit outs to advantage. Last year those numbers were down, no Libba might hurt but he still has some quality going through that midfield to run onto the end of those taps.

Yeh thats put me off a little.

Big Mac

Isn't there a good chance his back will flare up again?

At the very least he should be managed throughout the year

Who even is the dogs secondary ruckman?
The thing I like about Wilba is he will do 90% of the ruck work

Yup, they were one of the better combos in the league. I would like to see his hit out to advantage numbers from the other night but some of them were pure class. It might have been to Bont to set up a goal it was the perfect hit

Backs are tricky. You never hear of anyone that used to have a bad back. The Dogs medicos are pretty good though, they managed to do a pretty good job with Griff at the back end of the year and you saw Tomahawk have a pretty uninterrupted season last year at Geelong considering how screwed his back is. It is the risk you take.

There were a few talking up Tom Campbell for a while and then there's Ayce Cordy.

I think it is Tom Campbell but they had Tom Boyd running through there in the pre-season as someone to spell Minson.

I've been pondering Will for a couple weeks but Sunday's game made me really sit up and take notice.  Just wonder if the new
coach, with a different attitude and all, may be making a difference re motivation.  It happens.

AaronKirk

After his pre-season game v Richmond where he was slaughtered in the ruck by Hampson there is zero chance I am going near him and I don't care if he didn't try.

My Chumps

Yeah, had him until those first few pre-season games and boy-oh-boy did he look awful.

Had a good game on the weekend but I'm still not completely sold on him, especially sceptical after I had to carry his arse all of last season.
