GREATER Western Sydney has received bad news on Dylan Shiel's knee injury, with the midfielder to have surgery this week on a torn lateral meniscus.

The silky left-footer will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to determine the extent of the injury, which could be sideline him for between six to 12 weeks.

If doctors find any significant damage, it will end the 22 year-old's season, unless GWS make it deep into the finals.

Shiel was subbed out of Sunday's 35-point win over St Kilda at Spotless Stadium after kicking a goal before half-time.

Nasty.  Can you afford to offload Selwood? Only one week. Trades are gold this time of year.

I've wanted to punt Jelwood for weeks now, and was going to do it regardless of him getting rubbed out or not, but now that Shiel is gone I am not going to trade Jelwood and keep the trade

Not really fantasy relevant but Darcy Gardiner will miss rest of the season requiring both ankle and shoulder surgery. He was trying to struggle through to end of season, showing his courage in playing through injury, but another knock to the shoulder has caused him to act immediately. bad luck for this kid who has been punching above his weight.
