Reckon jong will outscore newton by 10+
I see jong going mid 80s, newton mid 70s

Generally rookies are stepping stone players yes

no - rookies are cash cows (you may occasionally get one who can become a stepping stone. Eg O'Meara in 2013)

Stepping stone players are those like Macrae last year - lifted his average by 20 odd pts and his price got to a level where it was easy to upgrade him to a true premium.

Occasionally Stepping Stones may become Keepers (although less likely to happen in the Mids)

This  ;D

Considering Jong won't be a stepping stone to Ablett by himself so it will require two trades anyway, I may as well use Newton as he is cheaper. Newton + another rook + $100k should definitely get the job done with Ablett's predicted price drop.

Have Steven at M5. Mite end up being Neale.
My hopeful plan of getting to Gaz when everything is clear.

This might work! Maybe as an M6 for me though.

I have been considering Rich or Wells as a stepping stone but right now I'm thinking a rookie can make more money, albeit while possibly scoring less, and having the money in the bank actually gives more flexibility.
Having the money in the bank I can choose which player to trade rather than having to use a particular player in Rich or Wells. With DPP I could possibly trade a forward or defender to Ablett when the time is right.
It is hard to stop myself spending all the salary cap to maximize scoring from the start but it is possible for a rookie to score about the same as a stepping stone player so it could work.

We support a great team mate!

This just opened up a whole new game plan to me. I did not consider using Tom Mitchell as a stepping stone to Ablett, by having a rookie such as Jackson Steele in the midfield as a link with his DPP. Thanks a heap!

As for your situation, I like that idea of trading a forward or defender with DPP to Ablett. But I get what you mean, if you choose a rookie and have a bit of cash in the kitty, you might be able to choose another rookie rather than getting rid of Wells/Rich straight up.

I have Steven at M5 too. So I'm thinking him to Ablett. Just hope Ablett does come down in price.

Tom Mitchell as a stepping stone to Ablett? Is this too optimistic? I need thoughts. Thanks everyone!

I've gone for Wells myself. Don't want a rookie at M5. Would have loved Ablett, but oh well. With Wells, he can be upgraded to a premium in any position, for eg if Gray falls in price really early and the rookies haven't fattened enough yet, I can still get the trade done with Wells. Ideally I keep him and trade him out before his bye, but he can go earlier if needed, and I like that flexibility he add to my team.
