Will you be starting a mid-price player in any position, particularly the midfield, to be used as a stepping stone to a premo? I feel lots of teams will use Wells and Rich in this way... any others that stand out?

If Bellchambers is able to play round 1 then he will be the only stepping stone player that I will be picking.

+1

Not picking any mid price mids or defenders

Depends on how Newnes and Lumumumbumbumba are classified. Apart from those two I'm only prems and rookies. I do like Bontempelli and J Martin up forward but there isn't any room for them with the amount of class already available there    :(

I'm probably gonna start Rich purely because of this whole Ablett saga. Should allow me a quick upgrade to Gaz once he's bottomed out. Although if he lines up round 1, Rich becomes a rookie, and I'll go Rocky to Gaz, and use the spare cash elsewhere.

Stepping stone players are fine.
There's definitely a few good ones.

Jong. I think will avg 80+ thats a 200k jump.
Rich. Can make 100k.
Bewick can go mid 80s and make 100k

I am also considering using Rich in this way.

Just to come back to this topic and regarding " the little champ ". If I don't start him I'm looking for someone to score over 100 each week and jump quickly and heavily in cash. The stepping stones I've come up with for this are Cotchin, Fairly safe score wise but maybe not much of a $ jump, good early draw.                                                                Griffin , Similar to Cotch, better off $ wise and of course A Swallow. The one I really like is just one game back from injury and that's Scott Selwood. But how about you guys??  Can you steer me a better course as I have a hunch Gazza may not see Rd.1.  Cheers.    :-\

Having given it some thought I now think that if you start a 500k+ mid you should do so wanting them to turn into a keeper

If you want someone you can turn into Ablett, then perhaps sub 500k players are better. Mitchell, Neale, Stevens, Masten etc

Don't think Rich and Wells will get you there without having to use too many trades

Fair comment, those selecting Wells & Rich should do so with the aim of upgrading around bye time (although Rich has the awkward round 11 bye). I've just done the calculations and based on a 100 average Wells will be 493k by round 13. Upgrading to Rocky or Ablett is definitely achievable with one rookie cull but that assumes one can wait that long.

I planned to use Rich as my stepping stone to GAJ but push has come to shove and I need someone cheaper. What if I used a rookie + Lin Jong to get to GAJ when (if) he drops in price a bit? Is that wasteful of trades? Is it too optimistic?

BomberSam

Perhaps Newton rather than Jong?

I would definitely take Newton, averaged 64 with 59% gametime in the preseason, could go on to average 80 in the season proper. Slightly risky but he can always be sideways traded if need be.

colmullet

Generally rookies are stepping stone players yes

Dayze

Have Steven at M5. Mite end up being Neale.
My hopeful plan of getting to Gaz when everything is clear.
