Is Hogan really a must?

I've brought this up before and generally get shut down pretty quick but I'm starting to actually struggle to see where he fits in.

He isn't basement priced and he won't score well.
The ONLY positive is his great JS but with the massive pool of forward rookies that are popping up, I'm seriously considering giving him a miss and going with 5 of
Clark, Salem, Lambert, Steele, Saad, Karnezis, Krakouer, Daniel, Lamb, Lonie, Laverde etc..

Am I crazy or do I have a good point?

I am going to say crazy. I actually did a write up about this in another couple of threads, one earlier tonight and one a couple weeks back in regard to Salem, but I can't copy and paste on my phone. I think we are all expecting a bit much from the forward rookies. I'll do a copy paste of the numbers I posted tomorrow and how even a 40 average for a guy with his job security is beneficial

Cheers Mat, look forward to seeing it because at this stage I'm seeing very little upside in starting him ahead of some of these other guys

Hogan has better JS than all of the other rookies mentioned apart from Clark and maybe Salem.

You have to pick him.

Agree, but does JS mean much if he's scoring 40s and 50s every week?
Salem, Clark and Lambert will more than likely be my 3 on field rookies in round 1.
The 2 bench spots will be decided over this weekend and who's named for round 1 but right now I see Hogan a few spots down the list and if not for his JS would hardly be considered

Daniel versus Hogan will be interesting, I think the former will score more in the long run.

Start him on the bench i say. I was expecting an average past 70

See where you are coming from Quiney88. Everybody going for the security of a player playing most of the time on the forward line with Hogan, but canning N Brown in defence. Where there are in fact less viable replacements. I have both but at position 7, but nothing is written in blood yet. Guess it's just a case of having someone to fill a last minute whole rather than have to burn a trade I guess but if I find a better one they're gone. Cheers      :)

For his price he is worth getting just for the bench he still will make a fair bit of cash

Fid

For me it depends if lower priced rookies play round 1, the money I would save means I can afford Cripps in the mids.

exactly. people expecting him to score 100+ each game are deluded

RaisyDaisy

I'm sitting him on the bench - he is a must Quinny for his JS

I expect a lot of 40-60 scores with the odd 70+ but his JS makes him a lock

As for all the other rookies, Salem and Clark are best 22 so their JS makes them locks for me too, but all the rest could be in one week and out the next

Lambert, Steele and Krak can be put in the midfield. It's not looking like there will be enough solid rookie mids available anyway so I expect at least 1 or 2 of them to be in my mids, and ideally I want one in the fwds for DPP

Guys like Lamb, Lonie, Daniel, Newman, Karnezis etc are not guaranteed best 22

Just about sums up my opinion

I'd also expect Hogan to improve as the season goes on - Only played 2 and 1/2 games last year so is still rusty. Will be much better when he gets some confidence back - that mark he dropped in the last qtr last night is very out of character for him.

Nige

Quinny, you're crazy.  :P

Park him on your bench.

Has the JS, which is more that can be said for basically everyone but Clark and Salem.

Fid

I am not that certain of his JS to be honest.  If he keeps getting hammered he may need games for Casey to build his confidence.  A 20 year old key forward does not guarantee JS in my opinion.
