Star forward Jack Darling continued his progression towards a return to senior football when he again appeared on the training track for a light skills session today.

Darling, who started on-ground training late last week, will incrementally intensify his work load.

While today’s session was not physically demanding, it was another important step forward.

Kennedy hopeful of playing

He moved well and looked to enjoy the session as he now builds towards a return in the next month, having spent so much of the pre-season and the early part of the club’s 2015 campaign recovering from a foot stress fracture.

The appearance of Darling and experienced utility player Xavier Ellis, who has not played this season because of a hamstring complaint, were two positive signs in a low-key session.

Ellis could return as early this week, probably with WAFL club East Perth as he begins to build his base.

The West Coast Eagles will wait until later in the week to make decisions about the fitness of three key players, including key forward Josh Kennedy.

Kennedy, who injured his left elbow against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday night, rebounding defender Xavier Ellis and wingman Matt Rosa have all been listed as a ‘test’ by the club’s medical staff as they monitor the trio ahead of Sunday’s clash with Port Adelaide.

After being hurt in the second term, Kennedy returned to battle against the Giants and finished with six goals, keeping him on top of the race for the Coleman Medal with 22 goals from the first five rounds.

Rosa missed last week’s victory against the Giants with back-related hamstring soreness, while Ellis has not played this season after damaging a hamstring in the NAB Challenge game against Port at Norwood Oval.

In addition to the prognosis on those three players, hard-working midfielder Scott Selwood and classy forward Jack Darling are edging closer to a return.

Selwood has not played since the first game of the season because of an ankle injury while Darling has not yet taken the field after a stress reaction in a foot.

Selwood is two to three weeks away from resuming while Darling is list as a four to five week prospect, but is back on the training track.

JJK, Darling, EMac, Brown

Seriously, has a club ever lost 80% of its spine before?

Grazz

Just when you think things can't get much worse for WC it does and how. Terrible news for the club supporters and obviously JJK.
Hope they take the cautious approach and mothball him. :(

I reckon Ibbo's pretty good :P he's no Hurley, but still...

10 news said JJK isn't going to go for surgery and is 50/50 for the Port game. I know what it's like with the right elbow, I have a recurring tennis elbow when I throw a football :3

Big Mac

Surely he goes in for surgery...

Not worth the risk

RaisyDaisy

Apparently he will train tomorrow and then they will decide on what they're going to do
