Kade Kolodjashnij anyone?

84, 82, 79

Does look to have made the move onto a wing and suns have a good draw.

Bewick also looks to have a wing secured at lions but concerning to hear Browny talk about how they like to use him to shut down opposition players. Explains some of his low scores in the back half of last year.

KK looks good to me , just very awkwardly priced

Could really shine and score well

RaisyDaisy

Those scores from KK are exactly what I expect from him all season

Wont be good enough for a keeper, so no point outlaying that much

bowyanger

Ive been watching and waiting for Geary to become SC relevant for the last few years

I think he will spike in scoring this year - behind Heater is my 2nd picked back

RaisyDaisy

So MacMillian scored 44 after being subbed off with 10 left in the 3rd

60-70 avg would be reasonable I'd think

70 is a reasonable expectation however I'd rather spend an extra 50k and punt on Geary or Ibbo being a keeper.

Daniel Merrett is value. Horror year last year but he's back to his best spot at full back. Only averaged 52 last year and a 75 average is entirely possible and his JS is more solid than GAJ.

Sssh meow been monitoring him since he started full training and Leppa said he would not move forward this season.  Appears a lot more relaxed now that he knows where he stands in the team now.

The problem with KK is mostly uncontested possessions

Ricochet

Never considered Macmillan and never will. Goodes however...

PICCOLLO

Few awkward prices sandwiched in there. I was looking at Atley, given his increased mid time but has shown nothing in NAB.
Bewick the dark horse but I'm looking elsewhere.

RaisyDaisy

99% that I am not touching any of the mid pricers

I wouldn't call Goodes a mid pricer, more an expensive rookie lol but he's the one I'm hoping I can slot in

Here's where I'm at regarding mid pricers

I think there are some real value picks in the 300-400k range. Guys like Geary, Ibbotson, Sheppard, Bewick etc, but the problem I have is if you're going to pick one of them, for that much cash they need to become a keeper

If they make you 100k you still need to turn them into a premo eventually. The benefit is that they could score well in the meantime and make upgrading them easy later on, but the initial outlay knowing a trade will need to be used needs to be considered

MacMillian and Jaksch interest me more, because they are significantly cheaper and I think it makes sense to select them

Lets assume MacMillian or Jaksch will average 70. I think that's a fair assumption with some upside

Premium Defenders are in the 450-500k range, where as these guys are 260-70k

They are 200k cheaper, and will most likely only average 15-20 less. That to me screams value for money.

Is it worth paying 200k more just for an extra 15-20 points?

As for the 300-400k guys, I think they can push mid 80's, but again its more of an outlay and will need to be upgraded

At least with MacMillian you don't have to hope he will turn into a keeper. You know he will play, get 60-80 most weeks and sometimes more, and is much cheaper to invest in, allowing you to use the extra cash elsewhere

Dunno, it really is a mess down back this year, and I'd love to roll the dice on a 300-400k shot, but I just think the cons outweigh the pros when you compare them to premiums (who wont need a trade used - set and forget) or MacMillian who is a cheaper outlay for similar scoring ability

I agree with a lot of this - good post

Im changing my starting strategy - to hell with the backline
I spend some good coin there and it still looks pretty ordinary

Im going for a backline that will resemble a dropped pie and will be using this thread to get the ingredients - as long as they are not KPP (besides Brown) and are guaranteed to be in the best 22 - theyre in my team

I reckon the money I save and spend elsewhere is going to increase my scoring potential

Im gonna load up my backline with no player > 400K....

See how the season pans out and let the dust settle then work on the backline

Mids, Ruck and especially forwards are just going to score so much better - theres just a much greater potential to get better bang for your buck shall we say

Ive never tried this strat in the 10 years or so Ive played the game but Ive probably never seen the list of backs available look so ordinary either

Ballsy but I like it, unless you're Nostradamus you simply won't be able to pick the top 6. We can talk about keepers until the cows come home but that is pure speculation. I'm simply going to look for value and hope I uncover a few hidden gems.

By the way, has Goodes been upgraded yet?
