Guys, we might actually have a rookie ruckman play round 1. Just need him to keep playing well in NAB.

"O'Brien impressed in his first senior opportunity in the club's opening NAB Challenge clash against North Melbourne in Port Lincoln on March 1, winning 14 hit-outs and eight disposals.

Crows coach Phil Walsh said the 19-year-old would lead the club's ruck department against the Cats in an attempt to ease Jacobs back into action.

If O'Brien continued to perform, the coach said he'd debut against North Melbourne in round one."

Could be a worry for Jacob's owners. Less ruck time will affect his scoring.

Yep, I don't have him him but I'd certainly be giving him the flick if O'brien was named round 1

I think I will still start Belly in the forward line, I can't imagine O'Brien will have the best JS.

shaker

That would be a luxury a cheap ruck on the bench

RaisyDaisy

I'll start him at R3, and still keep Belly

I'd rather pay an extra 8k for him over Read, because he is a chance to get games, and Adelaide play a fair share of late games so he can be loopholed too

Why keep belly then? You'll still need to burn a trade to switch him across. And you might not even be able to do it if there's a late out.

EDIT: scratch that, just saw he was fwd too ;)

looks perfect then hey

Unfortunately his kicking is wowfull and we have Luke Lowden set to play, so it's unlikely the competitive strong handed beast will play :(

Did you even read the article? LOL

Walsh said if he does well in NAB he plays Rd1

Ricochet

well none of Walsh's quotes actually say that. He said he'll play in the final NAB game

Quote"I was really happy with how Reilly performed last week, (he) did the majority of the ruck work and he'll probably do the same again and we'll manage Sam back in his first game," Walsh said.

"If Reilly goes well again I'll play him again against Port (in the club’s final NAB Challenge game).

“(If) he puts pressure on (Josh) Jenkins, it puts pressure on how we use Jacobs â€" all those things.

"I've spoken to the players, if you play well you stay in the team and that's how it works."

So not sure if they missed his quote, or they just got it wrong?

Laugh all you want but, we didn't recruit Lowden to play SANFL and as I said, his kicking isn't up to the standard needed to play AFL footy yet! Or didn't you read that bit :P

RaisyDaisy

Walsh wasn't quoted in the article, but it does say

If O'Brien continued to perform, the coach said he'd debut against North Melbourne in round one.

RaisyDaisy

And I'm pretty sure you didn't recruit Lowden expecting him to just slot straight into the 22 either :P

Footyrulz

Interesting news.

With Lowden training under a modified program, O'brien could be ahead of him.

I think it's unlikely O'brien will play even then, but you never know if they want Jacobs to share teh ruck load.

RaisyDaisy

Yeah I don't expect him to play, but if he gets a couple of games I'd rather that than Read who will get no games
