I'm not sure those who played were even a part of the minority that didn't participate in the program. I think it was more of an opportunity cost decision, they're all playing for their careers this season so it's worth taking that risk.

I've never understood why people get worked up about commentators or journalists.

Because journalists have a massive impact on how people view their club. They increased the intensity of the Essendon situation (and tons of others at clubs) by tenfold solely for their own personal gain.

As for commentators, when you're listening to 3-4+ hours of AFL footage per week you don't want someone who makes you want to smash your skull against the wall.
Is that hard to just ignore?
Individually perhaps, but societally the media will almost invariably impact on the public perception of any given issue.
It is unavoidable, and there has been some pretty blatant exploitation going on with this topic over the last couple of years.

How much of it will end up being warranted remains to be seen. I am actually stunned that anyone can be bothered keeping track of it at this point.
Isn't this the reason that this whole saga has dragged out so long?

The media fuels every issue in society. Good or bad. Some reporters and journalists are respectful some are idiots. Callum Twomey is one who comes to mind that is always respectful and seems to have a level of intelligence about most things he comments on. I hate how Barrett is hateful and disrespectful, but when he is wrong he can ignore the inflammatory remarks from his last load of crap and move on to the next topic without any reprimand for stuff he is allowed to waffle on about.

Settle down there Robespierre. As much as you wanna storm the AFL HQ and start lopping heads, there's always gonna be a Damien Barret who will take his place. It's the role, and all it takes is an endless bunch of failing journo's who will sell their soul for delusional success. He is the Justin Beiber of the media world, just don't listen to him and you wont get mad.

Damian Barrett is different to most anti-Essendon journalists though in that he's employed by the AFL and is advertised as their "best journalist"

Want to avoid reading Caroline Wilson? Just don't look at the age.

Want to look at game highlights, read about the draft or anything AFL related on their website? every single Barrett article is plastered as the front page.
