Bartel and Kelly interest me from yesterday.

Why did the cats bother playing them yesterday and both played the majority of the game in the mids.

Both now a bit further up the chain in terms of my watchlist.

Harry Taylor still in my defence.

Darcy Lang, Touk Miller and Adam Saad (needs to be promoted) the better performed of the rookies. Sexton a bit more $ but also looks likely for round one.

Cockatoo did some good things as well but needs to do a bit more for me to consider taking him over Darcy Lang for an SC spot.

Zac Smith should be on everybody's radar. Nicholls didn't play but surely Smith is the number one ruck. One of the 2 will go big this year.

Bennell was OK, but still got 88 SC. What does a good game get him?

Scott looking to play both Kelly and Bartel through the midfield this year, has said they were under-utilised last year. I think Geelongs younger midfielders haven't had the impact they were hoping for in the last year or two and are looking to get the 'big guns' back in the engine room.

Lang looks good, I'm expecting him to get games, they rate him very highly. Was expected to go higher in his draft year but broke his leg so slipped through.

Bennell is definitely on my watch list, been in a number of my sides. Apparently after the game he was seen icing his ankle and calf, don't know what that means in terms of his fitness though.....

Couple of notes from Adelaide v Nth Melbourne

B.Crouch only played up to 3/4 time. Make of that what you will

Van Berlo looked pretty rusty. Hopefully he gets that improvement with game time but to me needs to show a bit more to splash 200 odd for him.

MacMillan very good- leadership role, good JS and is cheap. an 80 average would be a worthy investment.

Some will consider Higgins. Be careful with his score, he did kick 4 goals which has inflated his score.

No real breakout rookie performances. Ellis-Yeoman was solid, does he fit in best 22? Need to see more from Dumont but showed some signs. Keeping an eye both of them.

Henderson needs a couple more hitouts.

That's why Bartel and Kelly played, to get decent midfield time before round one. Will help with Stevie J and Selwood in the engine room come round one.

I would expect Lang to be in the side round one. Showed his talent and with a full pre-season under the belt should be ready to produce decent performances and cement a spot in the cats best 22. Stephen Wells doesn't get these picks wrong does he?

eaglesman

Well Callum Sinclair injury solidifies lycett as second ruck at west Coast ... Could allow for say a Tom lamb a game to play up forward for the Eagles now given the reshuffle that will be needed given the Mckenzie and darling injuries

LF

Well shower
Lamb could line up now.
McInnes rucked and played down forward a bit in the Indigenous match so he could be an option

All their new draftees may be a chance for round 1 if drug saga plays out...

It's obvious that all their rookies are a chance because of the ASADA Saga, and he is a rookie hence he is a chance. Being impressed is just a bonus, but most coaches always say their rookies are impressing them anyway so it doesn't mean much :)
