When you say much cheaper Shaker who do you have in mind?  All the so called premiums have potential risks but historically its very hard to pick cheap midpricers that will end up keepers even though we are dropping the hurdle rate this year.

To start with it is pretty hard to call some of these guys people are using premos so players around $400k + that are being used at D4, 5,  think going with 3 of the best and couple between $250- 350K can save $200K + and rookies for the rest , you need at least one not playing to loophole so the backline seems to be the place , as for who are the cheaper guys are you just have to sift through the NAB results and take a punt and hopefully pick up a bargain like Jaensch last year  ;)

Jaensch was the only successful mid price ($275-$350k) defender in the last 2 years that was picked to start Rd 1 - by successful I mean played 19+ games and averaged 85+.  I'm not saying it can't be done but its a high risk strategy.

That's why SC is so much fun people have different ways of setting up there teams you need to take a risk in one of your lines with a depleted backline this year that's the line for me , others are stacking there backline with some players that might only avg. 80-85 and running lots of rookies in there forwards and that's not high risk ?

Do you define Harbrow and Lumumba as premium? I would more use the term keeper than premium, in which case I would definitely be including those two.

I think when we talk about defence in particular this year, "keeper" is the right term

Most of us assume that Eski, Simpson, Heater and a few others are the premiums of defence, but there are so many players who could potentially go 90+ and be keepers

Agree compared to last year there is only 5 or 6 you could call premos and that might be stretching it
