Steele didn't play NAB3 even with Hoskin-Elliot missing, so I wouldn't have thought so

Rico, here is another team for you to check out....

Def: Shaw, Gibson, Newnes, Lumumba, Goodes, Saad - McIntosh, Adamson
Mid: Fyfe, Pendlebury, Parker, Deledio, Neale, Cripps, Anderson, Heeney - Ellis-Yolmen, Vanderbarg, Miller
Ruc: Goldy, Maric - O'brien
Fwd: Bartel, Martin, Swan, Bontempelli, Salem, Clark - Byrne, Lambert

I know GC boys might not make the cut with a full squad, but as usual rookies will change until teams announced.
Neale is my only question mark atm...  believe he will breakout, but there is a cloud....

Thoughts?
DEF: Solid mate, like the structure. Premo picks are fine, for your rookies consider NBrown for JS reasons.

MIDS: Fyfe and Pendles are ripper picks. I'm not sold that Parker can improve again this year, its very very hard for players to improve after such a breakout year. Only guys like GAJ, Pendles and co have done it. But back your gut in with him. I've never been a fan of starting fwds in the midfield, if your looking for a dpp link then look at rookies. Start Lids in the fwd line over Bonts. I'm not sure on Neale. At 468k he will need to average over 110 to make 150k and also become a keeper, I don't think he can do that this year (one day soon though!). I would rather Steven who has shown he can go 110. For your rookies also consider Newton, Cockatoo and yeh be careful with Miller.

RUCKS: perfect premo picks. Keep some cash on hand for R3 incase only rookies like Phillips get named RD1

FWDS: Premos are great mate, I'm not sold on Bonts though. Personally think he'll be super inconsistent this year and cop a hell of a lot of attention. You could afford to downgrade him because there are plenty of fwd rookies this year, or bring Lids into the fwd line. ROokies to consider are Hogan, Karnezis and Lamb.

Sidebottom or Priddis
Tough one because both are coming off elite years, meaning I normally wouldn't expect either to improve. Historically most players really struggle to improve again after a breakout year. Priddis was running around doing his own thing last year and teams refused to tag him, saying he wasn't damaging enough. That will change this year. And Sidey was behind Pendles and Beams for a tag. Pendles will still get it, but expect Sidey to get a little more attention. Although the loss of Greenwood(Beams) does mean Pies will rely on Sidey and Swan more, so that may counter the extra attention.

I wouldn't start either but I would probably lean towards Sidey if I had to choose.

Can't fault it mate. Keep that cash on hand in case you need a more pricier R3 as cover. And I doubt Steele will play RD1 after missing NAB3. Nice team man

Vinny

Do you think Gray is a must and are you starting him?

I don't wanna pick him because obviously he had a massive break-out last year and will cop more attention and is unlikely to back it up etc. But he is owned by 40% of the comp, so if he does manage to break the trend of falling off after break-out, I could fall behind a fair bit. Thoughts?

Great work as always Ric.

Exactly my thoughts mate. I'm not starting him. If he does break the trend then I'll cop it on the chin and upgrade to him, but only the elite have in the past

Rico I whould like any comments mate.

Def: K.Simpson,S.Burgoyne,B.Smith,B.Goodes,C.Marchbank,J.Hamling (H.Goddard,A.Saad)

Mid:S.Pendelebury,J.Selwood,M.Barlow,R.Griffen,A.Swallow,N.Van Berlo,B.Newton,P.Cripps (I.Heeney,T.Dumont,T.Miller)

Ruc:W.Minsow,T.Bellchambers (R.O'brain)

FWD:R.Gray,B.Deledio,B.Goddard,D.Swan,P.McCartin,M.Clark(J.Hogan,K.Lambart)

What do u think mate.
DEF: One too many rookies here mate. Most will go with only one rookie at D6, some will go with Goodes at D6. 1 is fine, but you need to upgrade Marchbank here.  Premos are fine and Goodes is great value

MIDS: Like the structure here mate, 5 premos and 3 rookies is perfect. Top end picks are fine and both Griff and Swallow could be great value. I'm not completely sold on both but back yourself in. For your rookies I'd look at replacing Dumon and Miller with 2 of vandenberg, Cockatoo, Ellis-Yolmen.

RUCKS: I like the Minson POD and we should know more about whether Belly will be there RD1 tonight after the hearing. I think you need to keep some cash on hand for your R3. Just in case only expensive rookies are named RD1 (if any at all) and you can upgrade O'brien. Ruck cover is very important in my eyes

FWD: Very strong mate. And I think this is where we can find some cash to strengthen that backline. Gray, Lids, Goddard and Swan are all ripper picks, but maybe look to downgrade Goddard. Just the uncertainty of the ASADA case and who it will affect around him. We don't know how he scores playing with a bunch of replacements. As for your rookies I'd also consider Karnezis, Salem, Lamb.

Sup Ricco again I want to show you the changes I made to my team and If its better

DEF:K.Simpson,S.Burgoyne,S.Broddie,C.Pearce,B.Goodes,B.Smedts (H.Goddard,A.Saad)

MID:S.Pendelebury,J.Selwood,M.Barlow,R.Griffen,A.Swallow,N.Van Berlo,B.Newton,P.Cripps (I,Henney,A.Vandernberg,C.Ellis-Yolmen)

RUC: W.Minsow,T.Bellchambers (S.Durdin)

FWD:R.Gray,B.Deledio,D.Swan,C.Manye,C.Salem,P.Karneziz,(J.Hogan,T.Lamb

CASH LEFT: $17,500

What should I do now, bro!

blisk4ar

G'Day rico, thanks for takimg the time to have a look at everyones teams..

DEF: Simpsonn, Shaw, Newnes, Lumumba, Macmillan, Goodes (Hamling, Saad)

MID: Fyfe, Selwood,Wines, swallow, Steven, Wells, Cripps, Newton (Ellis-Yolmen, Boekhorst, Steele)

RUC: Goldstein, Naitanui (Cox)

FWD: Deledio, Swan, Mitchell, Salem, Clark, Hogan (Lambert, Lamb)

Feeling as though im one super premium short in the mids but dont want to miss out on the value of swallow/steven/wells. Wines is my pod thinking he will have a great third year now gray will be recieving more attention. prefer him over griffen

Dropped Neale/Bont/Martin

Brought in Priddis/Gray/Karnezsis and $110k leftover for more flexibility with rookies...

I've kept Gray in mids for DPP, just unsure of for prem mids atm... whereas i believe Gray will be top 6 prem fwd...

Huttabito

Hey, Rico.

Any issue in upgrading M1 from Pendlebury to Ablett if Fyfe/Beams/Parker are the other premo mids.

Would usually start with Ablett/Pendlebury but the last 3 years he's averaged 125ish, opened up at 667k+ and always fallen below 600k. Is it time to start looking at him as an upgrade target?

Cheers

I have a few teams to choose from now and I'd like your thoughts Rico!  :)

Team 1:

DEF: Shaw, Newnes, Lumumba, Higgins, Goodes, Oxley (McIntosh, Saad)

MID: Pendles, Fyfe, Selwood, Dangerfield, Griffen, Sheed, Cripps, Ellis-Yolmen (Heeney, Miller, Lambert)

RUCK: Goldstein, Nic Nat (Read)

FWD: Gray, Bartel, Swan, Salem, Clark, Lamb (Hogan, Steele)

- This is probably the SAFEST team but maybe not the best. To get Ablett, I would just be trading out 2 rookies.

Team 2:

DEF: Shaw, Newnes, Lumumba, Higgins, Goodes, Oxley (McIntosh, Saad)

MID: Pendles, Fyfe, Selwood, Dangerfield, Griffen, Steven, Cripps, Ellis-Yolmen (Heeney, Miller, Lambert)

RUCK: Mumford, Nic Nat (Read)

FWD: Gray, Bartel, Bellchambers, Salem, Clark, Lamb (Hogan, Steele)

- Mumford will belt out some HUGE scores early, rise in price, then I will downgrade him to Kreuzer as soon as he returns (round 4/5 probably), and that money will be used to upgrade Steven straight to Ablett.

Team 3:

DEF: Shaw, Newnes, Lumumba, Higgins, Goodes, Oxley (McIntosh, Saad)

MID: Pendles, Fyfe, Selwood, Dangerfield, Griffen, Rich, Cripps, Ellis-Yolmen (Heeney, Miller, Lambert)

RUCK: Mumford, Leuenberger (Read)

FWD: Gray, Swan, Mitchell, Bellchambers, Salem, Clark (Hogan, Lamb)

- Same deal with the Mumford/Kreuzer trade this time to upgrade Rich to Ablett. I feel content taking the risk with Leuenberger, especially since Belly is in my forward line as cover. I don't mind going an extra forward deep here either.

When looking at these teams, assume that Bellchambers is free to play round 1. If he's not, I will go from there.

Thanks,
BomberSam.
Option 2 for me man. Much better balanced and I love the Mummy/Steven combo. Plus Belly gives you good cover

Thanks for everything Rico! I have another question as I put the final touches on my team.

Bellchambers in for: Bartel or Swan in the forward line or Nic Nat at R2?

So either: Gray, Bartel, Bellchambers
or: Gray, Swan, Bellchambers
or: Goldstein, Bellchambers
