Just like last year guys, more than happy to give my thoughts leading up to Round 1. And like previous years I always try to keep as up-to-date as possible on player news right through preseason.

So ask away. Can be questions on simple player combos or a look at full teams. You can also ask me on twitter @Ricochetthis

Thoughts on Barlow?
A lock for a 115+ average imo. Battled through the start of last year with a knee injury and spent a lot of time off half fwd, working high up the ground. Started the year with a bang, 132 and 117 before hurting his knee. He then came back in round 7 with an 88, followed by an 82. He averaged 114 for the rest of the year. Currently getting through preseason and will never get tagged

Second year in a row of 110+ ave. Should build from here

You know what you get with Barlow. After the five 120+ stars, he's the next best pick

Pretty much my thoughts, had him in my team for a while now. Cheers :)

Rico, you're a champ! Appreciate the work you do greatly!

What are your thoughts on running a deeper Defence this year with the apparent lack of rookies and going a bit shallower in the Forwards where there currently appears likely to be more rookie options?

For example
D1-D3 premos.
D4-D5 mid price ie: Seedsman/Yeo/Ibbotson etc.
D6 WhiteX.

F1-F2 premos.
F3 fallen Premo/mid price ie: Swan/Titchell.
F4-F6 rookie priced ie: Clarke/Hogan/Salem

Ringo

Interesting one for you - Thoughts on Billie Smeldts.

Thanks legend, happy to help.

I'm all for it atm! I'm running 3 premos, Lumumba and Ibbo, and then Whitecross.

A few reasons for it. The first being, like you mentioned, lack of rookies back there. And rookies that will actually score well.

The second is lack of true top end premos. There's 2 boys that are 95+ from last year and I'm not overly confident Malceski can hold his average in a weaker team. Then there's only 6 lads that are 90-95. Of those, Hodge and Burgoyne are seriously getting on, Hibberd has ASADA hanging over him, BSmith will cop a hell of a lot more attention this year, and HShaw is well... Heath Shaw lol. There's too many risks hanging over these guys to start too many of them (I currently have KSimpson, Shaw and Hurn).
After this group there are 26 boys that averaged 80-90 (including Fisher tho who went 92 but is priced at 83). Plus guys like Lumumba, Ibbotson and co who have the ability to go 80+ or higher.

It means that you can have a 20-25th ranked defender and he won't be too far away from the top bracket.

Hey man, its funny over the last couple of years I've thought Smedts was going to be fantasy relevant. Then he never took that next step. So at the start of this preseason I put a big permanent line through his name. Then this morning I read this article http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/sport/afl/geelong-cats-coach-chris-scott-says-billie-smedts-needs-to-force-his-way-into-best-side/story-fnjuhrxq-1227237618714 which kinda put the spotlight back on him. Did you read the same one?

I currently have Whitecross at D6, but with Smedts at only 215k I think he could easily be a D6 in sides. One to certainly watch through NAB. Not sure I would take the risk any higher than D6 though mate

Ringo

Yep read a similar article and that is what brought him back to my attention. especially with Waters retirement and the couple of injuries. With the dearth of quality defenders looking at these low priced defenders capable of stepping up.

Hey Rico, would appreciate thoughts on which is better, can already tell you rather tean 2 because it's more balanced but I am liking the amount of forward rookies. Cheers champ

At D6 is very very solid mate backline man and I think you will get what you pay for with Missy at that price. He could go higher, but I tend to be wary of players who start at a new club. Especially when he's no certainty to slot straight into a strong North Melbourne side or keep his spot if he doesn't perform. I'd prefer others over Higgins personally mate, someone like Ibbo maybe

Kolo is a better pick than Higgins imo. He has been earmarked to play more on the wing this year and is rated very highly. I see him averaging similar to Higgins, but cheaper. Higgins is also coming into a new team, that is much stronger than the Bullies. So don't be surprised to see him in and out of the Roos side this year

JMart is my pick though. Cheapest of the the 3 and I think he'll average the most. The kid will be a superstar and learning from the best in the business (GAJ). What possie on the field are you looking at filling? Only question it because it looks like we'll many forward rookie options this year and I'd push strongly for a Guns and Rooks strategy.
