With there being limited defensive rookies with cash making potential, is anyone considering making a 5 man premium defence.

Considering starting Simpson, smith, shaw and hibberd, along with newnes. Yes other lines will be lacking however both midfield and forward rookies are stacked

A lot of people are already using this strategy - Personally I have 4 top premiums + Yeo

The forwards look stacked as you say but it is yet to see if the mids are stacked , there will be plenty but they may come at a premium time will tell how many actually line up round 1 and how much they cost so a 5 premium back set up may weaken the other lines to much I'm more for 3 premiums and take a risk with a couple

Not me. Probably a nil premo defensive line up  :)

I'm currently looking at 4 premos + one of Seedsman/Yeo

Currently have 8 defenders under $436,801  ;)

Good luck with that lol

Potentially means that all your defence needs upgrading to premos if they don't preform, meaning using 6 trades pre injuries

How many trades do you plan to complete your defence?

If they don't perform, then it'd take at least 8-9

Probably 4, with cash in hand. Hopefully one of Yeo/Seedsman increases in value enough so that I'll need within 50k to make the upgrade there, and if I make 200k from each downgrade, then still have 350k to upgrade another rookie which should be more than enough

Hard to tell, but I have 3 Backs in front of your B1, which I presume is Newnes.

It may pay off, but a huge risk IMO.  It sounds like that all your picks in your back half have to be right, otherwise you will be wasting trades before you even get any injuries.

Again, good luck

It is a risk, but I feel that at least 3 of my defenders will get within 10ppg of the top defenders. Having an extra prem midfielder, forward and ruck will easily close that gap. Also have $150k in the bank to spend before the first bounce so will see how I feel round 1.

Firstly, I'd make sure that 150k is used before round 1 is completed
I assume you have 5 premo mids, and 4 premo fwds? Comparing our teams then, you have an extra mid, an extra fwd, same amount of ruck premos, and you have 4 less defence premos. It's very very risky mate, would need a few of those mid pricers to basically become premos.

5 premo defenders IMO is too many.

Yes the defense is a cow of a spot to select for this season but you are spending way to much cash there.
3-4 premos, 1-2 mid pricers, WhiteX D6 and rookies on the bench.

Outside of that sort of strategy you either leave yourself heavily exposed in defense if you go cheaper or exposed elsewhere.
