Will be good to see Jed Anderson, if he gets a go (unsubbed) could be a huge go for SC this year

Andrew Walker is going to burn people. His knee still isn't right, he is hoping to play round 1, I can see him killing it in that round, people go nuts to bring him in and then he flops the rest of the season. The same thing happened with his quad issue in 2012. Killed it first couple of games back then he was cooked

Most people had no idea who Newnes was up until this preseason. Watch him get bulk stats playing in the mids in the NAB, then continue to be an average player when the real stuff starts.

Just like Macrae?

I heard he was the next David Swallow actually. Both Swallow and Macrae were star juniors and top draft picks. Newnes... pick 37. Everything about him is average!

Dane Swan was pick 58, doesn't mean you can't be good if you were a late pick.

Keen to see how Shaun Edwards goes for us. I know I have said I don't think he is best 22 yet but has been ticking along nicely in training for us.

Sub material written all over him.

He's listed as a defender isn't he? That'll be a big NAB tease hahaha

yeah, around 180k and a defender.

Agree about being sub material but someone to keep an eye on

I'm not saying that they can't but at least Swallow and Macrae had shown something at some point to suggest that they'll be very good. Macrae went from a 1st year player to a star, Newnes has gone from a 2nd year player to establishing his position in the bottom team. I've seen people suggesting 95+ is on the cards and I have no idea why. Not all mids go 95+ and he's not going to command a starting spot in their mids anyway, he's just a rotation.

He won't score like Swallow did, that is just crazy talk. With the lack of back premiums he is still a breakout contender to average 90 which most expect to be enough to make you a premium defender.

Edwards is bottom priced. Should line up in the fwd pocket for the Bombers in rd 1. Even if he scores 40 I'll take that from D8.

This is also true. The Saints do rate Newnes quite highly though and that is because of his leadership ability, however that doesn't translate into SC scoring either. I would still rather someone like Birch, but with the injury and 40k price difference I will look at Birch as an upgrade target.

Fair enough - I won't be starting him either. Still think NAB stats can be useful though

Newnes was the 15th best defender on total points.

22 games and an increase in average of even 5 points will seem him go into the Top 10 defenders in total points. On average, a 5 point increase will see him go into the Top 15 defenders. Basically being locked in for a midfield role will surely see him get that five points at the very least, along with natural improvement.

He is super highly rated at the Saints and got added into the leadership group recently too.

He won't go 100+ but 88-95 is very likely and at 430k, definitely worth the punt IMO.

How many extra points is that worth? It's the biggest load of crap in football. Players drop in an out on a yearly basis.
