Rocky + Ablett - Do We Really Need To Start With At Least One?

I've got both. I think you can't do without either. Put it this way, if Rocky carries on the way he has been going are you going to be able to afford him? Even if he drops to 700,000, where would you even get that sort of cash?

Swan dropped 16 points after his 130+ year.  If Rocky drops 5 points then that's still a 129 average for the season, which is huge.  If Ablett drops 5 points that would be a 114 average, which he can easily do, but as I said in the OP, you would think that Gold Coast would want to start pumping some more of their guns through the middle, which may see less mid time for Ablett.
Yeh but Swan was injured so kinda hard to compare.

Swan played 22 games the year after he went 130+ so injuries shouldn't be an excuse, because if he wasn't 100% fit to play then he shouldn't have played at all.
But it was pretty well publicised that he was carrying an injury. Whether he should have played or not isn't the issue. Its just a reason for his scoring dip. Which is also why he played a majority fwd and got fwd status

I'm not talking about his season last year.  I'm talking about when he went 133.5 from 18 games in 2012 and then the next year he went 117.5 from 22 games.  There was nothing wrong with him in 2013, yet he still dropped 16 points per game.

All I'm saying is that it's going to be hard for Rocky to keep his average from last year, and even if he does drop 5 points per game, maintaining a 129 average is still going to be massive.  Ablett has never gone past 125 in over a season, and if you take away Swan's 133.5 his best is 123, which is 6 below a 129 and those two are arguably the greatest ever DT'ers.

Ah yep I'm with ya now mate. Yeh thats a fair call, I spose the only thing on Rocky's side is his age and the fact that Brissie is now stronger through their additions to their midfield group

Surely the midfield additions of Christensen, Robbo and Beams could have an impact on the amount of points available to Rocky though? As well as the return of Rich.

Personally I think the opposite. Stronger midfield group means they'll hold possession for longer and control games for longer. If he was the #4 or #5 midfielder then yes, because he'll be pushed out of the middle and get less time in there. But he's #2 so time in there won't decrease too much. Ball magnets don't lose their ability to find the footy, they decrease in output when they just lose the opportunity to get it / have an interrupted season.

Barra13

Even if he doesn't get the ball as often, he still tackles. Averaged 9 tackles a game last year = 36 points right there.

Probably not. Things change.

Christensen and Robbo won't spend massive amounts of time in the midfield. Hanley out half the season. Zorko will spend most of his time forward. Nothing really changes for Rocky except now with Beams in there, there's another eite player to help him in the midfield.

Both  :)

I finally had to do this. Last year I had a few opportunities to finally get Rocky in but each time something else got in the way. If I had been able to get Rocky in at all last year my rank of 83rd could have been much better. Won't make the same mistake twice

Ringo

I started both last year and will be starting both this year.  Also will be using my redrock combo again which served me so well last year till Redden's injury.
