Selwood is a no-brainer this year, even if he drops a little he will still feature in the top 10 mids, that's all I care about. His round 13 bye is also super handy.

+1

I know at some stage he is going to drop under 600k, but to be honest all other mids besides Gaz, Pendles and Rocky will at some stage anyway, so I'm just going with the set and forget approach

I personally don't see him holding 120... He will be mid 110s. Players who average that always drop below 560k

Your dreaming. He will clear 130s this year... Get on early or he will cost you an extra 100k by not starting him.

I feel 130 is dreaming... You can have my life savings if he holds 130 average by rd 23 close. #nochance
Don't see him above 120 IMO

This. Don't see him backing up a second 120+ year. However, he's pretty safe for a 115-120, I'm guessing 118. Which ultimately is only a few points less, so while he's probably slightly overpriced, the fact he's a safe bet for a top 5 mid with a great bye more than makes up for it.

However, this also means that by no means is he a must have starter. I have him for now, but he's the most expendable of my 5 mid picks if I'm in need of some cash to get a couple of more expensive rookies. Guys like Ward, Swallow etc. offer pretty good value if needed with the same bye.

I'm playing around the fact that the annual Selwood concussion could come early this year, given you can't  start all of the mid super prems.

redfield

He's not in my team at the moment but I'm toying around with a lot of changes at the moment. I'm not too worried about the byes at the moment. It's easy to get distracted by them and allow them too much influence over your starting team. A lot can, and always does, happen prior to the byes which can throw the best laid plans out the window.

not even thinking about him.

great bye, proven super premo. I just clicked his name and forgot about him. Next time i think about him will be when i'm thinking about VC and C options.

The big one for me. Really need someone proven in that bye and Selwood is at the top of that list

How come you need someone proven in all byes?

Obviously, you still need 18+ playing, but players with Rnd 12 and 13 play Rnd 11 (All of the premos just about), then start upgrading rookies to Premos who've had their bye already.

Because I have a premo (and Belly) structure of 5/5/4. So take Jelwood out and I only have 3 last round premos which is far too risky. Ideally I would have more premos in the last round and upgrade rookies after their bye, but there aren't enough top end premos from that bye

Upgrade target for mine

Only starting 4 premium mids ... Which means I am picking the best 3 available Ablett rocky and fyfe ...

For me it's
Priddis/Yeo vs Selwood/Henderson
... And I go for west coast :)

I am holding off for two reasons.

The first is he always seems to have a shocker or lean patch the last couple of seasons that sees his price drop to be a really affordable upgrade target around the byes.

The second is with Stevie J's injury issues he will cop more attention. Teams still want to tag Stevie first and when he is playing in the guts they probably will, but if he is forced to play forward or miss games teams will really lock onto Selwood. He will have Freo in round 2 and then he also see Carlton about a month before the byes. He doesn't see either of those teams again post bye

Stevie J is back in full training. He'll be right for round one but I agree that Jelwood will cop more attention. I don't think it will affect him as much. There is still a quality group of young mids around him who can help him shake off the tag.

Not to mention Bartel and Kelly earmarked to have more time in the middle this year....

Reckon I've heard his name on here once. I think he's a seriously underrated option!
