And it seems like Belly at R2 is picking up momentum around here

So the idea is that your R1 and Belly can hopefully get through the first 6-8 rounds unscathed, and then you upgrade a forward rookie to a premo ruck and swing Belly into the forwards?

I'm starting to like that idea more than having Luey, but what's the contingency plan if R1 or Belly miss a week or two? I feel like that could really hurt, but at the same time the risk vs reward is there, and then there's what Bully said about worst case scenario culling a cow a little early

Hmmmmm I just know its going to really annoy me if I have to trade a ruck in the first few weeks when I could have avoided it by having Belly in the forwards instead

No idea which way to go, and I need to decide to asap

This is where Nank/Naismith comes in handy. Tippett might not play the first couple so you get some coverage there hopefully even though it might be just a 2 week gig. I want to see the teams so I can see if any rookie rucks get named.

This would be good yes ... But I think if u start belly at r2 u absolutely
Need a rookie ruck/fwd swinger ... Well for my plan u do anyways

If a cheap R3 pops up then that changes everything and makes Belly at R2 as opposed to the forward line much better

Also, just thinking about it, if Belly goes down in the first few weeks he will be easy to trade to Luey, and then after rd4 or so Kruez should be back so he's another option too

If the premo R1 misses, then a trade is used to another premo

I guess it just means that if there is no R3 playing and Belly or R1 misses we have to burn a trade, whereas Belly in the forwards means we don't have to use a trade

Really is just a matter of risk vs reward

Just an aside, been loving all your insight on this particular issue RD!

For me personally, I don't give much of stuff about overall ranking and I'm in a couple of decent cash leagues, so if I have someone I think I can beat, I'll cop a donut for a 1 week injury

For me, I'm not keen on any other mid price rucks, and I don't have the cash to start 2xpremo plus Belly at F4, so my options are 2 Premos or Premo + Belly.

Both options leave me without cover for the first 6-8 weeks, but the Belly option is much cheaper and provides me with cover from that point forward

The big risk is in the first 4 weeks, get through that period then it's smooth sailing. If worst comes to absolute worst one can always replace a forward with Ryder then cull Belly for a forward/mid down the track. Whatever happens it won't derail your season.

Think I saw Longmire confirmed Tippett as a starter today.

I've spent most of the pre-season advocating Belly as a forward to provide cover, but with rd1 about to start I just cant seem to make it work unless I drop a premo or Swan which I just don't want to do

I think I'm going to be plonking him at R2 and just crossing my fingers that NicNat and Belly can get through the first 6-8 games unscathed and then I'll turn a rookie forward into a premo ruck and swing Belly into the forwards

I just cant fit him in the forward line now  >:(

I don't want to drop one of my starting forwards  :'(

The only way I can make it work is by having Luey at R3, Belly at F3 and moving Swan to the mids, but I don't think that's the best way to go?

What a mess!

Bully

It's coming down to JPK, Gray, Steven vs Fyfe, Nic Nat, Danger/Griffen for me, could even downgrade to Steven and pick up Brayshaw in the mids. Think I'll just run with Belly at F4 as I can't see any monumental benefit at this stage.

RaisyDaisy

Well it's pretty much official. I cant fit Belly in my forward line now. Months and months of discussion for nothing lol  :'(

Looks like R2 or not picking him at all are my options  :-\

Yep, after all the talk, I was too happy with my other players that I've forced Belly to R2 and I'm gunna pray NN and he don't get injured till I can upgrade a Forward to a ruck and swing Belly out.

Fid

Done the same, at least this way I get to have Swan in the forwards

Goosey

Picking Bellchambers at R2 has made all the difference in the other lines where I was struggling to make ends meet.

Went with a cheap R2 last year and it panned out OK, so hoping for the same this year, upgrade to Mumford!

looking through games of both giles and belly, I am very sure that giles will play ruck most times this year as he is clearly the better tap ruckman, he can have games where he gets 40+ hitouts. Also looking through bellys stats and he hasn't really been a great scorer? I'd love to take a punt on him at r2 but just can't see him killing it

Not even sure Giles will play? why wouldn't they just go Bellchambers early with Daniher giving him some help?
