Interested to hear your thoughts on this guy? I'm tipping a SC resurrection. I'm backing him in as a keeper.

Well first off isn't he priced as a bottom end premium? If you are paying that much he better be a keeper.

And when was the last time he was actually healthy?

So expensive and injury prone = pass

Making a lot of sense here Mat. Still think he can average 90+. Fingers crossed he gets through the year.

Word is he's the fittest he has been in years and has no more niggles or problems

At this stage I'm banking the 50-70k and picking him. I think the risk is worth the reward. So many seasons of 90+ averaging and if he gets injured then I'll use a trade. Worth it

I'd rather take the Newnes at a similar price - breakout candidate, potential mid time and more upside IMO than Fisher.

I concede if he stays fit that Fisher a good chance at a top 10 defender, but that is a big if.

Ricochet

Hasn't played more than 15 games in 4 years. No thanks.

I like the risk vs reward here and I'm a bit of a renegade when it comes to picking players for my team so he's being strongly considered.

Same person he's always been. Old, always injured, St Kilda shower now, but same bloke on the inside.

No thanks.

Also, you'd be crazy to have two STK in your backs, so if you have Fisher you don't have Newnes. Cheaper, younger, more up side.

He hasn't played a lot of the past few years because he has had problematic injuries. Yes it's a risk, but injuries do eventually heal, and if he and the club are saying he's feeling the best he has in years and is finally 100% then I think he is worth a shot

He makes such a big difference to their side. Yes they'll still get smashed most weeks but when fit he is a lock for a 90+ average.

He's last 3 years have been ravaged by injury, but prior to that he had 6 years in a row over averaging 90-102 every year. Heck he finally came back last year and played the last 7 games in a row to average 92, so it's not as if he's lost it

There's every chance that Newnes will break, but I'm going to go with the proven gun. If he gets injured well I use a trade then, but if he stays on the park which by all reports he has the possibility of doing I reckon it's a huge win

Respect your opinion but:

1) Everyone feels great in Summer. It's how you feel during Winter that counts.

2) Best I've felt in years doesn't necessarily mean an upwards, or sideways trajectory. It alternatively means "body was totally stuffed by my late 20s."

3) Even if the risk reward pays, are you shutting yourself out of another risk reward elsewhere? The idea being you wouldn't go for too many risk/rewards in one side, because they don't all pay.

4) It's easy to get caught in the "smart" trap of pickng this sort of player, only for every "dumb" pick and his dog also choosing him because his name's Fisher and the average column says he averages 10 more than the guy right next to him.

In my team there's room for only one player who'll turn THIRTY-THREE during the season and it's not this injury prone has-been.

Speculator

I see this bloke as a decent option. The defenders this year are pretty poor so someone like fisher becomes selectable. Would be different if we had the same defenders as last year. But this years lot are useless.

I just don't see how he'll possibly be able to play the same type of footy he was when he was young, in shape, and in a good team.

He played the last 7 games of last year and averaged 92. Cant see how all of a sudden he's a spud?
