Interesting to see that starting more bottom end premo's allows you to easily squeeze 2-3 more keepers in. Now trying to work out if its worth it or not

I think it works as long as you 3 guys that you realistically think will finish top 10 on the lines (Def/Mid/fwd) as a foundation to start with and your team will eventually have those 2nd tier (11-20) anyways. Some of those 2nd tiers could even make the jump to first tier like Newnes or Tmitch.

As for Joelwood i plan on getting him midway when his price drops like the last 2 seasons.

No-ones doubting JPK as a top 10, top tier player. He's still no Ablett though, price-wise and score-wise. Get a Ward instead of Rocky too (one of the hottest-property mids last season), and you'll easily get another premium or 2. However, it all cancels out, really. You'll probably need the same amount of trades and cash to bring in Rocky + Ablett as you would if you had them and intead wanted JPK, Ward plus say a defensive premium.

There's no worries in people with only 12 premiums, if they're top-shelf. I want to start as few rookies as possible though (+ chase value), so that's my reasoning.

Some with say 14-15 premiums, I assume they have mainly basement rookies and no NVB, Brayshaw, WhiteX, Biggs, Acres etc.

I think we will be forced to go with those type of guys which will cut back the premium count.

Gotta find the balance. With less rookies you're not going to have as much cash generation in your team which could hurt in the long run. But more rookies obviously means less points.

I think people forget to factor in that cash generation when they're comparing 2 premos vs a super premo and a rookie/mid pricer.

As of today I have 13 keepers plus Waters, NVB, Kruezer and Bellchambers

Totally agree. However, if I get my (~)13 rookies right, the 14 and 15th best probably won't be too great anyway. It's not the best 2 rookies I'll be missing out on.

I've got 15 keepers and got NVB/Waters/Brown.
Had biggs and brayshaw but not so confident in them being in the best 22 so they got taken out.
As i said before. I'd rather have more expensive rookies and cheapos and downgrading to cheaper options later when they come up than have cheapoes now and ruining your structure by downgrading a premo and getting playing cheapos/rookies in.

Can be done. If you go with average premos. I now have 14 keepers (with tom mitchell). Plus waters NVB. HAve cut costs with going with cheaper back premos. Simpson and smith out for Birchall and Hurn has given me some extra $$$.

Currently have 14 keepers. Split 4/4/2/4

The structure unlikely to change but the actual selection may depending on the availability of rookies come round one.

Same here. Would really like to squeeze another premium in the mids, but would need a lot of cheap rookies ready to go Rd.1 :-\

I'm nearly thinking about going from 4 premo forwards to 3 and bringing in another premo mid.

The proviso being that rookies come about. It's not looking too good atm.

14 keepers split 3/5/2/4

Shaw
Birchall
Hurn
+ Waters, Whitecross

Ablett
Pendlebury
Selwood
Sloane
Ward

Minson
Naitanui

Deledio
Goddard
Martin
Swan

Gone pretty high-end with my premo's in the mids and fwds which means i'm pretty much gun's n rooks except for the backline where it looks like you can't afford to be. If not enough rookies pop up i'll have to change my structure.

I'd say that your backline is a bit week but it's just so hard when you're trying to field 5 in the mid AND deal with the new ruck system. Your premos are fine, just wouldn't trust 2 midpricers.

This is how I determine keepers. I pick the best 22 players for the relevant positions and write them down. I then pick my starting SC team. The players in both teams are my starting keepers.  Is there any other way  ??    ;)

May work for afl fantasy but not SuperCoach with limited trades, I'd say best 12 mids would be classified keepers. If you can get the top couple in then the rest in top 12 your doing alrite. Etc etc for forwards and backs. More like top 9 for them but
