how are people getting so many keepers in there side? I have 12. 14 and 15? Are 15 of them really keepers.. or more like stepping stones to premos?

Goosey

3 + Waters
4 + NVB
2 Goldy & NicNat
4 including Swan

Sabretooth Tigers

 :)

I'm only counting premium players as keepers for now. The reality will only be known as the season unfolds.  Cheers.     ;)

4 + Waters
4 + NVB
2
4 + BellyC

=14 + 3 midpricers

Grazz

Struggling myself to work out how people have 14 absolute keepers.

I will list the 13 I had

Simpson
Shaw
Birch
Lumumba
Gaz
Pendles
Sidebottom
Hanners
Nic Nat
Goddard
Lids
Buddy
Harley

4+4+1+4

If I am picking defenders in that 400k bracket it has to be with the intention of them being keepers.

I think it's probably just subjective definition of a keeper, eg I personally am not considering Newnes a keeper, but equally I'm buying him at 436k hoping he becomes one, not as a stepping stone... Others might call him a keeper.

I have 12 keepers + Newnes, Waters, Wells, NVB and Belly... If I DG Belly to a rookie I could easily upgrade Wells and Newnes to proven keepers, so not impossible for people to have 14 out and out keepers.

Agree it is subjective and possible to get 14 keepers by taking some cheaper options available, i just jigged my team around and got 14 but again 1 or 2 of those are suggestive as not certain of being in the top 6-8-2-6.

I still think if you are picking guys in say defense and forward line over 400k and ruck/mids at 500k and over they have to be keepers. They are too expensive to be stepping stones on those lines and you might as well downgrade to a cheaper option now if you intend to use them as a stepping stone. The other thing is you always have previous premo players that drop off and may need to be traded meaning they are no longer keepers.

I agree, but the reason I don't count Newnes as a keeper just yet is that he hasn't proven himself to be one, and by proven I mean he's shown a lot of promise, but his average was 81 last year, and if he doesn't go 90+ I will be looking to trade him. I think he can go 90+, which is why I say I'm picking him in the hopes he does become a keeper, but if he doesn't then he's holding up a spot. At which point he becomes a failed gamble, he's definitely not a stepping stone, but he's got a good chance of pushing into that keeper bracket for a bargain price.

Something I've noticed on this forum in general is that people tend to just pigeonhole players as "keepers" while they ignore current form because "you can't trade player x". There's been examples of this every year where people hold on to someone who doesn't perform just because "I picked him as a keeper"... For some players this is true but I think that courtesy gets extended to far too many people. No-one on my team is immune from me trading them, it all depends on the situation.

fair call. it is all perspective on where you think players will finish.
that way i see it is most teams will finish like this, lets be honest most people will not finish with top 10 on all lines.

DEF - D1-D3 (top 10), D4-D6 (11-20)
MID - M1-M4 (top 10), M5-M8 (11-25)
RUC - both (top 10)
FWD - F1-F3 (top 10). F4-F6 (11-20)

DEF starting 3 top 10s + Newnes who fits that (11-20) bracket.
MIDS im starting with 4 top 10's + Swallow who IMO will finish in that (11-25) bracket.
Rucks Goldy/Nat should be top 10
FWD 3 Top 10s (Lids/BJ/Swanny) and Tmitch who fits in that (11-20) bracket

4+5+2+4 = 15 starting keepers.

Woppa15

Smith
Hibberd
Newnes (Hopeful)

Ablett
Selwood
Fyfe
Ward
Parker

Goldstein
Nic Nat

Goddard
Deledio
Swan
Mitchell (Hopeful)

12 + 2 Hopefuls + also have Waters but consider him more of a stepping stone, if he goes 90-95 then even better

Money Shot

For me the keepers I have are
Def: Shaw, Hibberd, Birchall, Newnes and Waters
Mid: Ablett, Pendles, Fyfe, Jelwood and Ward
Rucks: Goldy, Nic Nat
Forwards: Franklin, Martin, Swan

I think I have 14 top 10 keepers and then Waters who will probably be the Suckling of this year and stay as that 6/7 defender.
So I have 15 guys I would happily keep.
In saying that my rookies are pretty cheap at the moment with 10 picks under 123k which will probably have to change come round 1.

The_Captain

It's gonna be interesting to see which rooks will get games round 1. Could push us all back 1 keeper or so if we have to splash that extra 100k here and there for a playing rook.

15 keepers to a side will be incredible effort if all them rooks start.
