TOM ROCKLIFF is the new Brisbane Lions captain.

The 24-year-old will take over from Jed Adcock for the 2015 season after being told by the club on Thursday morning.

Rockliff has been a vice-captain for the past two years.

Adcock shared duties with Jonathan Brown in 2013 before being the sole leader in Justin Leppitsch's first season as coach last year.

He will mentor Rockliff in his new role.

Rockliff is a popular figure within the playing group and is the reigning club best and fairest winner, an honour he has won twice.

He has played 101 games and was the AFL's leading disposal getter in 2014, averaging 32.7 touches a game.

The Lions will make a formal announcement on Thursday afternoon.

Not sure how I feel about this...really liked Adcock as Captain. Not sure if Rocky is ready.

Guess we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully he becomes more disciplined and no suspensions this season (easy brownlow favourite if that's the case ;)).

It's a good choice, will be great to see Rocky as the new skipper. Like GL has said, hopefully this means he will learn to keep his head on the field a little more, and we won't be seeing anymore useless suspensions from the great man.

Decent leadership group around him too with Zorko, Hanley and Rich as the vice-captains.

For those that wish to read the Lions official announcement.

Whilst Rocky will lead by example he will need to control his aggression and retaliations as would befit a Captain. Would have preferred to see Jed remain as Captain for this season though to allow Rocky to develop his Leadership skills. Jed will be a mentor to the Leadership group which includes Rich, Hanley and Zorko.

So now you have been the great honour Rocky lets see what you have.

Wonder whether the Captaincy will improve or take away from his fantasy scores.  We see some thrive while others do not.
