Well you've got me. I thought SC tallied up your points. Doesn't seem to be a 'only scored them against' column anywhere.

Due to other areas requiring tending to, Newnes has been safe in my backline, I did manage to offload Lumumba though!

Happy that he is starting to put up some decent scores.

showers me off when people say that. It doesn't matter who you score against. 100 points is 100 points i would take that any day whether its against fremantle or a reserves team

you can only score against who your playing. plus there are plenty of premos out there who dont always go 100 against these opponents. very happy with him and will consider next year if he keeps this up.

Calm down mate, he's just saying that he has only scored well against poor teams. Hardly a basis for saying "glad I kept him". I'd be waiting until he plays Freo/Sydney/Geelong/Port/West Coast before making calls like that. Because there's a pretty good chance he'll be back to scoring 60s and you'll all be wishing you traded him out again.

2014:

Sydney: 104
Freo 106

he only went 100+ 4 times last year and two of them were on the two best teams in the comp.

Slashers

As a backman, isn't he more likely to score better against teams that will have the ball in their forward line more?

I used to think this but I think against shower teams the ball comes in with poor disposal so its easy to get intercept marks and effective long rebound kicks which are supercoach gold! Also back men can just sit on the centre line and get repeat inside 50's

Against good teams the forwards are getting good delivery so its a lot harder for a defender to get their hands on the ball.

An exception to this is when a good team kicks inaccurately, guys like Shaw and Murphy clean up because of the kicks in they kick to themselves :)

HotTiges

Bottom line is, he is doing his job i was asking him to do..

It's alright mate. People get so defensive over players they choose like as if someone is personally abusing them.
I'm not saying he's a bad choice, coz let's be honest here the back line is stuffed this year for most most players.

Sure a ton is a ton but I just find it a little funny how a few weeks back people we spewing about keeping him and a few tons against avg opponents and he's the inform backman all of a sudden.

SC coach reactions are funny is all. Take a look at TMitch for example. 1 bad game and coaches are planning for the worst.

Not playing as a backman, has been playing off a wing.

I would love to see a heat map because I think he is getting more of his touches at half back

He's been playing this role all season.  Sitting behind play and moving up onto the wing.

Let the cycle continue:

1. Saints play a low possession game, Newnes floats outside stoppages and goes missing.  Scores 50-70. Owners: "I'm such an idiot why do I keep this flog".
2. Saints keep competitve, Newnes plays well.  Owners: "Lol I'm so smaht thank god I kept him."
3. Repeat

Ends up averaging 85.
