To many people selected him thinking he was going to go 95-105 which is just crazy! I couldn't see any St.Kilda player averaging big numbers this season being in such a rebuilding side.
I selected him based on could he improve from last season? and yes, he most likely will! so thought he would be more around the  85-90 mark being more realistic and anything above that is just a bonus.
With the back line being pretty thin this year figured he would make a solid D5 D6 come years end and i still believe he will. It's only been 3 games and people are already jumping off. Trades are like gold and everyone seems to be burning them like rubber atm. Save your trades and have some faith!  8)

No1 expected him to got 95+ ... Kade Simpson only managed to scrape into that 2 Man Club, behind Malceski, last season.

At best we were hoping for a 90 average with no injuries/rest to bank 1980SC points for a thrifty $436k @ D6.

If he improves his DE a little bit so his SC matches his DT score it's not out of reach.

Newnes only came into my side when Birch got injured. He may very well become Birch around the byes if he is plodding around 80-85 because being honest, there are probably going to be 6 or 7 guys averaging 90, maybe more. In the NAB he busted out some decent scores which made me feel more comfortable about the pick, looking at his DE% you could probably put it down to that as why he hasn't been averaging more. If he cleans up the ball use he will be a decent pick, but with guys like Smith, Hodge, Birch and Burgoyne with runs on the board or the breakout crew keep it up he is going to be dead weight. It is not something worth pulling the trigger on yet, especially considering the early season injury tolls, but 10 rounds in he may need to be culled

He's playing like he's scared of making mistakes, over-reacting, and rushing his disposals (especially kicking). Needs to slow things down a wee bit.  Maybe his coach will point this out to him...who is St. Kilda's coach anyway?

Absolute Spud,

Dont know why I copied everyone thinking he would be good when I originally had hodge. Butchers the ball

Never looking at pre season form ever again except for rookies.

I don't know what you expected from him but as has been previously stated in the thread he hasn't been that bad. He has had 20+ disposals the last 2 games, the DE problems are there but he will improve as the season goes on.

Hodge is a proven player, so if you wanted a proven premium player I don't know why you copied everyone and picked Newnes either.

game. set. match. well said Sideboob

Agree Newnes is a hold/wait and see at the moment, honestly wouldnt be happy with a yearly average of less than 90, 90-95 would be money well spent, he is the type of pick you upgrade at the end if you have all over bases covered.

I do my best to tell people this every year  ::)

Still.. It's only round 3 and he hasn't been a complete disaster just yet

Pretty close when you consider guys like Houli & Fisher were around the same price. He was also flattered by a 10 point scaling with his 90, definitely over hyped in the preseason.

Very tempted to go Newnes-Smith with my leftover dosh...

Wasted? Maybe, but it'd be a feel-good correctional trade

Goosey

With all the hype created around him, and the need to buy mid pricers due to the lack of rookies, I bought him. Disappointed? Yes, but not so disappointed that I will trade him......yet....

Mat0369

If you trade him it has to be as a luxury trade later in the year or around the byes if he seriously regresses. Again, considering all the injuries and how many upgrades you have to make at this point of the season there is no point giving him the boot right now, it is just plain stupid
