He shouldn't be a major concern at this stage.
Well he is, him and Griffen haven't done enough

I'm flowering them both off.

Newnes > Hamling (if selected) and Oxley onto the ground.

$409,800 in the kitty now.

Griffen > Beams/JPK/Lewis next week.

Newnes and Griffen simply aren't good enough for the cash we paid for them and aren't going to end up as premos.

Best to cut our losses now.

No way he'll average under 80, 85 is a good enough D6 (and we all knew this when selecting him), and he's still certainly capable of averaging 90.

Don't understand the fuss, seriously, he's a good kick, he just had a (not even that) bad game or 2 to start the year. It's like people jumping off Dusty after his 50 first up.

My boy Hibbs is a good comparison, led the team for effective kicks last year, doesn't mean even he doesn't have low DE games here and there. Also doesn't mean he suddenly forgot how to kick a footy.

Newnes averaged 80 last year, I think most people want 95+, I doubt Newnes can achieve that. I would be all over Smith like a rash if I had 100k up my sleeve.

Well if you picked him expecting 95+, theres your problem!

I was expecting 85+ which as you said Hib is good enough for D6, and if he can improve on that, then that's a bonus.

Yep I'll take 85+ from a D6 this year easily

I'll give him another week. I'm a Carlton supporter (Whoa is me..) and they are that Showering at the moment that it should be easy for Newnes to ton up this week against them!

You get what you pay for. He's not going to score high hundreds. If he averages 80-100 I'll be happy

+1

Been getting plenty of the ball the last 2 games with low DE (105 and 94 in DT for those games). Hopefully he can get that up a little bit and he wont be looking too bad.

It always interests me that people are looking to ship players off when there are more pressing issues at hand.

In 3 weeks over 10 to 15 key players have been injured.

Newnes will be okay once he sorts out his kicking efficiency.

I hope you're right mate, I really do. But is it really just a simple matter of a player 'fixing' their kicking efficiency?

Newnes: 'Gee coach, I'm just not playing like I want to'
Coach: 'you know what Jack, why don't you just fix your kicking efficiency?'
Newnes: 'wow! You're a smart mother flowerer coach! I'll do just that!'

I think skills are a bigger issue than just 'fixing'. As a carlton supporter I know this...

But I'm keeping, he's going ok for a potential D6.

I don't think there's anything that needs to be 'fixed', he's not actually a bad kick as he showed last season and in round 1.

Trading Newnes is the sort of trade that is called 'correctional' at the start of the year and 'luxury' at the end of the year. If your trading now it should be because you have to

Newnes is actually a really good kick, just had a stinker on the weekend
