Alright, so I've seen this kid in nearly every single team, and I guess a lot of people think he can break out and become one of the best/premium defenders this year

Can anyone tell me why?

Everyone was hyping up Swallow last year and I didn't start him. He broke out and I had to get him in much later, so I don't want to miss out this year too

So, do I fit Newnes into my team? Is he going to pull a Swallow of 2014?

I don't think he will be as successful as Swallow last year but I can see Newnes being the Brodie Smith of last year.

He is coming into his 4th year which is the most common year for a player to breakout.

He lifted his average from 58.2 in 2013 to 81.2 last year so it is likely that he will have a big increase again this year.

He finished off the year strongly averaging 92.3 in his last 6 games.

He is definitely in the Saints best 22 and all indications show that he will spend more time in the midfield this year.

He has DEF/MID status which is a rarity this year.

What's not to love?  ;)

...and won Saints time trial by over 50m.

he really is an interesting pick, he could go either way really. Do a Brodie Smith and he will really help you climb the ladder. Been alot of these guys that dont make the leap though.

im thinking i would rather spend <100k more and get someone I know will go 95ish.

he looks good but plenty have people have looked good and turned out not to be.

Yeah the risk is definitely there and he could tread water but the same risk can be applied to a 'safe' more expensive pick that has the potential to drop away this year.

With players like Newnes I think it comes down to going with your gut.

thats true.

Kade Simpson last 4 years.

95 95 95 95. just has a little more safety

He probably only needs to raise his average to 90 to make the initial pick a worthwhile one as he seems pretty durable (40 games in the past 2 seasons) and with a reasonably shallow premium defence pool this season could justifiably end up a top 10 defender for the season.  I currently have him at D3, depending on the available R1 def rookies he could be a D4....

Seedsman and Lamumba will average more then Newnes

Don't do it Holz! Injury central!

basically every defender is a risk except HIbberd.

elephants

Its the level of injury-risk though... Grimes is a 95% chance to miss games through injury vs someone else who is more 50-50.
