Doing my first marathon this year before the body packs it in.  Anyone who has done one and got tips, let me know!

Am pretty much starting from scratch after a nasty recurring hammy all year.  Up to 2x13km runs a week. Am just going to increase by a km a week for the time being.  Got a tough 6 months ahead.

I'm a horrible runner, but a site called wiggle.com sell pretty cheap packs of supplements for different types of training including marathons.  I got a cycling one that arrived today, for $16 it had a fair bit of value in it!
I usually check out the bombers page for that

In the Dees preseason thread Barra was posting about the Dees training
Quote from: Barra13 on November 09, 2015, 08:21:05 PM
QuoteWho:
Coaches - No Roos, no Goodwin as far as I could tell, so it was mainly left to Rawlings, Matthews, Allison
Fitness staff - plenty, including D Cross. And I hate to be rude but a young lady seemed to be observing and she was a solid 9 to 9.5. By far best on track.
Players - see earlier posts. But Garland, Tommy Mc, Frost Bugg Tyson (are they 4th or 5th year?) plus the 1-4 players.

What:
Modified program:
Petracca: Agility drills, kick to kick, sprints over on the multi use oval
Hogan: Started with the main group before kick to kick, goal kicking, sprints. Went longer than Petracca
Brayshaw: Didn't see him do anything but was dressed and at the oval before heading back to AAMI
Tommy Mc: Sat out some of drills before doing some extra sprints at the end
Vanders: Took time away from the main group to complete some agility drills before rejoining

For the main group it was
- Warm ups
- Handball and kicking drills
- 7 v 4 drills
- Timed running drill
- 300m repeat sprints
- Goal kicking

The session lasted close on 2 hours. It was warm and a bit gusty. I don't think the players were flogged but they were certainly made to feel it.

It's hard on such a small sample to get any idea of where individual and the team in generals skill level was at. So that's part of the no surprises.

What I was looking for was if anyone had made significant gains in body shape/size or in fitness levels and again there probably weren't surprises there this year.

The big positive was that everyone (except maybe Brayshaw) was out on the track and working hard.

The 2nd year players were impressive. Oscar McDonald look stronger. He ran well and kicked the ball well in drills. Neal-Bullen and Stretch are pro's. White trained very well and is a beautiful kick. Vanders looks leaner but just as strong and imposing and of course Petracca might've training separately but was moving well.

From the 3rd years Hunt is starting to look like an AFL player build wise. Harmes was working hard and has a strong body. JKH was running well and whilst we might have strong competition if we played an intraclub basketball game if it was soccer Salem would win hands down. He was running solidly in the second group and as always using the ball beautifully come drills. His body probably remains a work in progress but there's no rush. Not everyone can or needs to look like Jack Viney who appears cut out of stone.

Of the rest it was nice to see Col Garland working hard to rebuild his fitness base and hopefully get back to career best form. Sam Frost needs to keep working as well but he's got great speed and is a big man, combined with missing time last year that's not a surprise. Dom Tyson impressed me. Kicking the ball well, making a note to kick often on his right foot (steady but not spectacular) and running strongly, early days but a bounce back year could on the cards.

All up it was more than enough to see in November and it's nice to know we have 2 dozen or so mainly young players working hard to improve. A good start to a long year ahead.

The word "app" is in my 2004 dictionary, not as an abbreviation for application, but it is there. People use it over application because we are lazy and it rolls of the tongue better.

tbag, have you have used "AFL"? That is not a word, or do spell out and say "Australian Football League" every time?

Or how about the "Aussie Aussie Aussie" chant? Do you say "Australia Australia Australia"?

Tbag's from Adelaide, not Australia.

Cant compute how people don't get their license when 18

I can walk into Perth from my house in 15 minutes, 5 minutes into the main part of Mt Lawley, just get the train to Claremont (work+footy), Subiaco (footy), and uni (and don't tell anyone but I usually just jump over the barrier where you tag on). Never have to worry about parking or petrol, get to spend time concentrating on my phone not on the road, etc. Easy lifts to American Football training+games because both my brother and his mate who lives around the corner play in the team too. Easy as.
tl;dr living in the middle of everything in a small country town like Perth is easy

That being said, I'm probably going to get my Ls sometime in the next month, give me something to do while on uni break I suppose

Those are great reasons not to get a car :) but different to getting a drivers licence

Why pay for something and go through the hassle of getting it that you're not going to use? :P

So it's a bit like that condom in your wallet then.  ::)
