The word "app" is in my 2004 dictionary, not as an abbreviation for application, but it is there. People use it over application because we are lazy and it rolls of the tongue better.

tbag, have you have used "AFL"? That is not a word, or do spell out and say "Australian Football League" every time?

Or how about the "Aussie Aussie Aussie" chant? Do you say "Australia Australia Australia"?
