Jeff Garlett - Can we consider this guy? He was in Mick's bad books last year, but his previous 3-4 seasons he averaged mid 70's. He isn't going to set the world on fire and score huge, but I would think he has really good JS, and at 260k if he can average 70 he should make about 150k. Is his cash generation and JS enough to make him a good pick?

Brent Staker - This guy seems to get injured a lot which is a big concern, but when fit and playing he can score well. At 246k if he is fit and lines up Rd1 is he worth a shot? Will score better than Garlett and make even more money

Nathan Vardy - Similar to Staker he seems to get injured a lot, but if he lines up Rd1 is he a worthy pick for 220k?

Ben Reid - Same as Vardy

Christian Salem - Should hopefully get more and more chances and avoid the vest. If he is in Melbournes Best 22 each week is he worth starting at 185k?

Tim Membrey - I see him in quite a lot of teams and I'm not sure why. Don't know enough about him. Will he play every week and is he relevant for SC?

I think Salem and Membrey are viable options from these guys.

Salem, at his price and with his scoring capabilities, has to be considered if he's free of the vest.

Membrey should play every game and is at a nice price as well, has to be considered as well.

There are so many other guys too. Templeton, Sexton, Close, Kersten, Sylvia, Murdoch, Lennon, Blease, Kommer, Jack, White Tarrant, Karnezis, Harper, Newman, Laverde, Langford, Markworth, Goddard, Daniel and Krakeour

I reckon most of these guys are no-gos.

Templeton, Sexton, Lennon, Jack, Laverde and Daniel are the pick of this bunch.

I agree with Nige here, I was looking at that list of guys and thinking that the issue with basically all of them is they won't get games... Those with greater likelihood of game time seem to have less upside in terms of making cash. Would stay away.

Out of all the forwards I listed, who do we think are the best 3-4 of the bunch?

Obviously Clark and Hogan are locks, but who are the next 3-4 good cheap options?

I am not a fan of starting with those more expensive rookie priced players.

I would just go with cheap rookies that play round 1 to be honest and spend the cash saved elsewhere.

RaisyDaisy

Yeah there's every chance that's exactly what I'll do, but if I do decide to go with the 3 prem setup and need to get 1 or 2 of these guys because theres only 1 or 2 rookies that get named, then who would you suggest?

I'm not sure where Staker is at, but if he is fit and lines up rd1 I really think he represents value

T Dog

Just a little left field but I am looking at Darcy Moore: $182k: B/F DPP but an option if named to start.

I didn't put him in the list, and there's probably a few that I shouldn't have put in, because I reckon the likes of them including Moore will be SC spuds

Moore/Goddard DF Link could work I guess

Good point on scoring risk but I will look for JS as well this year in the backs and forwards if there is any. eg. Nathan Brown (B)

Wouldn't have a clue on the majority that you had named but as a Dees fan I reckon Salem would be worth a look if he is named round 1 and not given the green vest.

Too much crystal balling to really say mate, if they're named you have to look at them but the trouble is I don't think any of those guys will actually be named round 1.

Templeton would be worth a look if named, had a few good scoring games, a -1 really flowers your average so his numbers don't look great but could do better than it looks at face value. Membrey did ok for 3 quarters in his first ever game, can expect some improvement from him. I too had noticed him in a few teams, certainly more likely to get game time at Stk than Syd but still wait for him to be named. Lennon looks like a real option if he can get named and avoid the vest, only 2 games where he didn't start as sub of the 7 he played, scored 83 vs GWS and 65 vs bombers. Similar with BJack, too much of a vest candidate but you can't help but think he'd be good if he got full games consistently. There was reasonable hype for Markworth and Kersten last year. But yeah I think Clark and Hogan are your locks, then see who else is around... Lennon would be my next pick if all of those guys were named. After that, no idea really haha

RaisyDaisy

Yeah I think if I go down the path of 3 premo forwards I'll have Clark and Hogan at 5 and 6, then take a shot on a player named in rd1 for F4, say a Salem, Membrey etc..

For now, we just sit back and wait ;)

No Belly?

RaisyDaisy

Currently have Belly at F4, but will just wait and see who gets a game rd1

Depending on how this kid goes in the NAB Cup. Building himself to become a mid elite, could do a Jackson Macrae this year. Will be jumping on his as a giant risk if Belly isn't named round 1. It's Mr Jack Billings.

Re: Salem. He wasn't vested for team/role reasons, he had a thyroid condition diagnosed early days in the season. My partner had the same thing. 100% treatable/manageable, but early days you're bushed. He's a flowering champion getting up to play in his first year.
